An excellent day yesterday at Reading with some high scoring games in all of the age groups..... 8-)
Congratulations to Martin Cole (Sussex) who retained his Under 25's Title...... despite playing with his arm in plaster having broken his wrist last Thursday..... after he beat Johnny George (Northants) in a very close final. The first leg became very tactical after a ball ended up near the baulk line in Johnny's break game with Johnny taking a lead of about 1.2k at the end, Martin then opened with 7.5k in his break game and although Johnny hit a very good 5k+ break at the end he just ran out of time and lost by about 900. A good game to watch though and two worthy finalists on the day. ;D
Some of Martin's thunder was possibly stolen though by 12 year old Daniel Wheal (Sussex) who won 2 of his 3 group games to reach the quarter-finals, before losing to Martin. Several big breaks and 7k+ scores from this youngster who has already had some successes in Sussex Inter League competitions and is a name to look out for in the future. 8-)
Unfortunately we had to leave just as the Over 50's Final (Tony Martin v Ian Lelliott) was about to start with the Over 60's Final (Tony Martin v Phil Hawkins) to follow that, so perhaps Dave or somebody else could fill in the details of what happened in those games..... ??? ;)
Many thanks to Dave and everybody who helped to arrange and run the competition on the day, the tables all played superbly with plenty of 10k+ scores and breaks made on virtually every table....... 8-) ;D
Perhaps the only disappointing aspect was the poor turn out for the competition.... only 16 in the Over 50's and 9 in the Over 60's.... :o :'( ..... but Dave did manage to fit in a Plate Competition on the day and it was great to see the numbers in the Under 25's had increased to 11 for this year. ;D

Congratulations to Tony Martin, who I understand completed the double winning both the Over 50's and Over 60's competitions last Sunday. 8-)
