Hi Forum
Don't know how you guys feel or how practical/possible it is, but would it be possible to remove or archive old threads that have no "current" relavence like last years birthday messages or Last years entrant applications.
I'm sure it would take a lot of work to do this and i don,t even know if it's PC or allowable uder forum rules but it would certainly make navigation and the forum experience more enjoyable.
I also accept that i am one of the worst offenders at sending unnecessary posts.

Thank you for your message, Colin. What you say makes perfect sense.
I have copied this into the Staff section so that we can kick around a few ideas.

Although it would make the forum 'tidy' it isn't necessarily necessary ;D
All the boards are shown in chronological order based on the 'last post' date, so therefore the most relevant post will be at the top (below any 'pinned' posts) and the rest will gradually drop down the order. Birthday posts.... it would be great if they were all in one place but there are people on here who only look at their 'local' board, deleting them the following day is not the answer, after all I was in the Indian Ocean (not literally) on my birthday so didn't get to read the messages til around a week later, perhaps leave it one month from the birthday and then delete the thread, after all we dont need 5 years of birthday wishes archived, and it would free up some bandwidth.

This used to be done by me until members grumbled about removing history.
I was pruning two year old posts.

Hi Forum Moguls
Sometimes you're damned if you do and damned if you don't!
Now that Eastbourne are on the bar billiards map (just) and hopefully I get a few more registrations from our league would it be possible/reasonable to ask your goodselves to delete an out of date thread from our own league section when and if we feel it appropriate. We dont presume to ask for any records, reports or stats ever to be removed, but there are 9 pages on Sussex alone and we would want to keep the Eastbourne Forum pages as concise as possible.
Not trying to create tension or stress with anyone just making what i think is a positive suggestion with little idea of the consequences

Just post a message in the thread you want deleted and someone will respond in due course, although I may be too late to do them myself as somebody else will probably get there first 8-) SG ;D

Hi Forum moguls
I've noted that thread replies always appear below the original message, when reading through responces. It's sometimes easy to miss posts that end up on the next page as i have done several times. I often don't notice the no. of current pages.
Is it possible to reverse this so that new replies/posts appear above the original message, this would to me, appear more user friendly as new posts would then appear at the start rather than at the end of possbly 3 or 4 scrolls/pages and thus promote easier forum navigation.
Once again, dont know if this is easy to change or against forum convensions

Lets give ot a whirl. Not a forum parameter, but coding added. Comments please Sav It threw me totally...... hadn't got a clue as to why everything had gone back to front! :o I then read this..... ;D I can see why the suggestion has been made, but one down side I would have to say would be that where a thread has been started with a list of fixtures, which are usually updated as the results come in, that would disappear down to the bottom of the thread and people would then have to search through to the end to see all of the results (in one place) rather than having to read each match report. :-/ Also, since the first post normally sets the "topic" for the whole thread, it seems that the topic could be more easily lost if people are replying to subsequent posts rather than the original. Personally, I prefer the "old" system..... if people just want to look at the more recent posts then it is easy enough to look at just the most recent ones using the "new topics" or "view latest posts" icons at the top. ;)

I'm with Dave on this one for those exact same reasons: (Threads starting with a list of fixtures more convenient on 1st page, and easier to stray off topic this way.) *
If enough had thought that the old way could have done with changing, I'm sure that one or other of us would have suggested it by now. But I'm impressed by your speed in doing this, Sav. ;)
* Also, it's really inconvenient this way for marking the quizzes. Hate it! Change it back, please !

Although it makes it easier to see that there are new messages, it is more difficult to follow threads. Most threads do not go over one page so reading any new material is simply a matter of scrolling down anyway. It does seem a bit alien to read from from bottom to top and totally against Western convention - top to bottom, left to right.... ;)
I tend (like a lot of people) to use "view latest posts" so it doesn't really matter to me but on balance I would vote for reverting to the old way.....sorry!
cheers Tony
PS while writing this I notice that the "Topic Summary' remains in the oldest to newest format.

Seems unanimous so far so 'Normality is resumed' Sav Go to work and the world goes upside down then turns back before I could be confused ;D ;D ;D I understand why Gandalf made his post but also agree, for the reasons made above/below :-/ :-/ , that the old way works best in general.

Hi Forum Moguls
Like sparky never got a chance to see changes before they were removed, can see where you're all coming from though, think my suggestion is valid but causes more problems than it solves.
but thanks for comments forum moguls and well done

Here's what to do, Gandalf (and everybody!)...........
1. Visit your profile (the 8th one along of 12 choices at the top of this and every page). 2. click on 'Modify Profile'. 3. near the bottom of the template, look at 'Dates and times'. 4. Set 'Currently Observing DST ?' at 'Yes'. (And back to 'No' in 6 months time)
........et voila!

Forum viewers are in more than one time zone and clocks move on different dates in different countries, thus summer time observance has to be controlled by users themselves.

There'll be no holding you back, now, Gandalf.
Now you've discovered your Profile we'll expect to see delights such as a smart Avatar of a wizard-type chappy and a suitable witticism as a fixed signature. ;) ;D

Not a bad choice of avatar for starters: I see you've chosen one from the standard stock provided by Proboards.
If you want to change this for something more exclusive to you, set the Avatar back to 'N' and insert a URL for your own chosen one underneath. You can pick anything you like (within reason!) from Google images, and then find a hosting website for your image. Most of us use 'TinyPics'.
Alternatively, visit the Forum Rules Help and Support area: Under 'Test board' there's a thread called 'Free avatars for all' with a link to Jurko.com. Here you can choose an animated one - and there are 200 pages-worth to choose from - and simply insert its URL into your Profile.
