Couple of singles results played last night
Mark Trafford 2-0 Kevin Bull 6680 - 2830 5690 - 4940
Keith Hollis 2-1 Geoff Powell 400 - 7920 10,380 - 210 5620 - 3900
I played pretty poorly again but was given enough chances to win!
Keith played very well, but was given one too many chances in the decider by Geoff to win. Keith did go off with 8,410 in his break game which is the best break i have seen him get in a very long time (maybe his highest ever competitive break?)

I did get an 8K plus over at the red lion but lost it so yes its the best one I have kept. I tapped off as well as there was just over 5 minutes left and I figures 8K was beyond Geoff at that point given the 50 100 was tricky as the split had to be left perfect so most splits were 50-10's or 50-20's even for geoff as well although he did start to work it out in the decider.

Any more results come through yet ?
As far as i am aware, the QF lineup is looking like this....
Sid Ponting Mark Trafford Keith Hollis Tony Willis Jenny Parsons Paul Laithwaite/Scott Gillam v Jon Bamsey Pete Soanes v Bill Keenan Terry Cook v Ian Moss
Just a quick question on this (think i may have mentioned this before...) Bill & Jenny are down as the Plough, but they are not participating in the Summer League, so is he allowed to play from that venue in the Singles ?

Jenny isn't because she has played for the Flag this summer and thus is tied to the Flag table, but Bill is as he signed on (theoretically and emotionally ;)) when the Plough did have a Summer team (they had to withdraw due to illness and holidays) and he has not played for anyone else. This is the Witney summer league - he can play where he likes as long as there is only one venue.... ;D ;D BTW I'll probably do the quarter final draw early so that people can get on with their games. cheers Tony

Our independent adjudicators have made the draw for the Quarter Finals of the Summer Singles and the draw is thus;
Tony Willis (Lamb & Flag) v Scott Gillam (Bletchington) or Jon Bamsey (Red Lion) :(
Terry Cook (Royal Oak) v Mark Trafford (Kennington) or Ian Moss (Red Lion)
Bill Keenan (Plough) v Keith Hollis (Kennington)
Jenny Parsons (Lamb & Flag) v Sid Ponting (Kennington)
Closing date will be in about a months time which is why i have done the draw early. Semis and final will be on one night at a venue to be decided.
I will send a sheet out to all pubs with more details later this weekend and please call me if you need contact details of anyone.
cheers Tony

Terry Cook 0-2 Mark Trafford
Not a pretty game with both players making too many mistakes! I'll take it though ;) ;D

Many congratulations to Bill Keenan of the Plough who won the Witney Summer Singles for the first time last night at the Red Lion Cassington.
In the semis Mark Trafford played Jenny Parsons first and although Jenny played well on her break, she was unable to stop Mark in the second and he went through. In the second Tony Willis won the first game 7360-6530, but Bill Keenan came back in the error-ridden second to just take the game.
In the Final Bill won the first by around 8k and Mark was very unfortunate to lose his opening break in the second. With both players fluffing around for a while, chasing-time ran out for Mark and Bill slowly finished off the rest of the game to deservedly take the title.
First semi Mark Trafford 5160 - *4880 Jenny Parsons *14090 - 430
Second semi Tony Willis *7360 - 6530 Bill Keenan 3120 - *4460 FINAL Mark Trafford 2710 - *10800 Bill Keenan *100 - 6880
Presentations were also made to the Kennington SC who won the Summer Cup and to the Red Lion Cassington who take the Summer Shield by virtue of being runners-up.
Thanks to Jon Bamsey for making sure the table was as excellent as ever, to Roy Wain and Terry Cook for presenting the trophies and to Jan the landlady for providing some lovely supper. Well done also to all the members who turned up to make the evening a success - thank you.
cheers Tony
