An exciting finale to the Ladies County Championships yesterday...... 8-)
Going in to the last series of matches, Oxon A led the Division 1 table with 14 points and were due to play Berks A who were bottom of the table with 10 points while Sussex A and Surrey A were level on 13 points and due to play each other. :o
Oxon A had already beaten Berks A 4-1 earlier in the day, but Berks turned the tables and stormed into a 3-1 lead..... while Sussex A and Surrey A were drawing 2-2 in the other match meaning that with just 1 player left to play from each time, the table looked like this....
1) Sussex A - 15 points, 101350 total aggregate
2) Oxon A - 15 points, 94,190 aggregate
3) Surrey A - 15 points, 90,500 aggregate
4) Berks A - 13 points, 87,570 aggregate
Debbie Barton (Oxon A) had knocked in the highest Ladies score (9,750) earlier in the day against her opponent Jane Carless (Berks A)...... in the other game, Alison Norman (Surrey A) had beaten Bella Stoner (Sussex A) in a much closer game earlier in the day and needed to beat her again and score 3.7k more than Debbie managed in the other game to lift the title for Surrey A..... while Bella was obviously looking to get her revenge for the earlier match and seal the title for Sussex A. ;D
At the half-way stage of the games, Debbie had opened up a lead of about 2k which her favorite to win that game....... while Alison had a slender lead over Bella of about 300 with the balls at the back of the table..... if the situation stayed like that, Oxon A would be champions and Surrey A runners-up.
Debbie duly won her match (4,080 - 2,150) against Jane...... but it was Bella who was first to get the break back in the other match and knocked in a frame winning 3k+ break to give Sussex A their 4th consecutive Ladies title and 19th overall win in this competition...... 8-)
Division 2 was slightly more straightforward with Surrey B winning all 6 of their games to gain promotion to Division 1 next.... the big battle was for runners-up with Sussex B clinching a 3-2 win over Oxon B (a game that included 2 last ball 200 hole winners for Sussex B from Jenny Edwards and Colleen Park to win their games) and secure runners-up just 0.5 points ahead of Oxon B, with Bucks just a few points behind.
Jan Bithell (Sussex A) was the only lady to win all of her matches in Division 1 and Debbie Barton (Oxon A) hit the highest break with 5,060....... Ros Appleby (Sussex B) also won all of her matches in Division 2 and Sheena Wood (Sussex B) hit the highest break of exactly 4,000.
All of the results, tables and averages are now on the Sussex Website......

Many thanks to Dave Alder for sending those to me so quickly..... and for all of his hard work together with Phil, Ron, Eileen and everybody else who helped to organise and run the day which is probably one of the most enjoyable of the year. 8-) ;D
