Regarding the strange symbols appearing on posts I desparately need to know what others are experiencing. The problem is rooted around what character encoding your browser is operating under. In Internet Explorer and Firefox it's under the view tab under character encoding. Please can some of you take a look at any page on the forum and post 1) Board you are on 2) Browser and version if possible 3) Character encopding that has the dot against it 4) Corruption - funny A or diamond (describe, do NOT cut and paste as what I see may be different) 5) Under Firefox / View / character encoding / auto detect is it turned off?? if not turn it off Does the encoding change as you move around Please view support.proboards.com/index.cgi and see what encoding is used on that page and then come back the the forum, does it change?? Until I know what several people are seeing I cannot start to clear up posts as different people are seeing different corruption, either diamonds or a funny A and possibly question marks. Which corruption are you seeing (funny A or diamond), it could be either of the two corruptions. Different people are seeing different things and that has caused me confusion! I now understand. Urgent help needed Sav. examples: Posted under Unicode Encoding viewed under Western Encoding Posted under Western Encoding Viewed under Unicode Encoding

Further to this under Firefox and Internet Explorer, make sure that under view / character encoding that auto select is turned off and western iso is selected as encoding. Proboards has introduced new pages with inconsistent character encoding and that is causing the corruption when browers allow the website to apply the character encoding. It could be you as the viewer not seeing things correctly or whomever posted it posting incorrectly the problem is caused by Proboards.
Further diagnostics still appreciated so that I can be absolutely certain I am correct.
Now for the clear-up routine (which I have started)! if you find one of your posts with strange characters click to modify it and click to re-post it should clear it up

The clear-up routine appears to be working as we go into posts and I've just heard from Proboards that they now admit that a problem over the weekend caused this to surface. We were aware of this but it has never been a major problem before and did not initially associate this with it.
All should return to normal now.
