I've been glued to Eurosport watching the world 3 cushion billiards 8-) for those who haven't seen it before your cue ball must hit the cushion 3 times after you have hit your object ball it must then hit the 3rd ball for you to score, it's 1 point at a time, there are 2 whites, 1 off colour and 1 red, the table has no pockets, so it's all about cannons, it's brilliant! i always make a point of watching it if it's on. it made me think about our rules a bit see this link, www.3cushion.com/ it explains how the game was made harder with the changing of the rules. wouldn't it be interesting to play bar billiards and you could only score if your ball, cue or object, had to hit a cushion first? I think I will try this out and see what it's like, we used to play 'backies' years ago, you could only score from the back cushion on the 50 holes and up or down on the 100 and 200 holes, the 30,20,10s didn't count. 8-)

That is a brilliant game and always a joy to watch. If you have not heard of him before, you have to see Semih Sayginer, some of his shots are amazing. Just search for him on youtube. here is a link to one of his trickshot compilations

I watched the match between the 2008 Champion Zanetti and the 2009 Champion Kasidokostas that Zanetti won 50-46 with a 19 consecutive break of canons. The world record is 31!!
Quite interesting and amazing how they work out all of the angles, but the tables have numbers equally spaced on all the sides of the table on the cushions to help with the angles, one angle is known as the "Diamond" angle shot.

Because the game is all about cannons, not potting... if you dont need to pot you dont need pockets 8-)

It's an interesting game that I have played in Belgium.
The balls are larger than the ones we are used to and not that heavy. As a result, as you have seen, you can get so much side on them that you can play outrageous swerve shots.

Outrageous as you say. Similar fun can be had by buying a 'trick' (weighted) ball - most sports shops should have one. I was however impressed by the shots where he missed all the other balls - I'm quite adept at that ! ::)
By complete contrast, the standard game of three-ball billiards, played either on a full-size or half-size snooker table with proper pockets, is a good one: like bar billiards, it tests your ability to pot, play in-offs, and cannons (used in bar billiards when you're trying to clear the table quickly). 8-)

can you give me more hints on where I can find helpful as in "helpful" information regarding billiards and pools? help please Hi Sarah Welcome to the forum... This is a BAR billiards website and you will possibly need to be more specific about what information you need. You may be better looking at 3-ball billiards and pool websites? A description of the game of Bar Billiards is on Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bar_billiards and on James Masters site at www.tradgames.org.uk/games/Bar-Billiards.htmregards Tony
