The AEBBA rule book needs to be changed then because it says 11.30START Rule book is correct but Dave probably has a good reason for needing a later start. Sav

Trevor Gallienne has politely declined, so Tony Webster is the next on the list....

Last year, Dave reminded me what my start time proposal was i.e.(I would like to propose that the start time of AEBBA Tournaments be changed from 12.00 start to an 11.30 start. Except the over 50s, 60s, & Grand prix day.)But the rule in the AEBBA rules states; (Start time of AEBBA run Tournaments is 11.30.) There's nothing about the Grand Prix day, so, did it get deleted at the AGM or has Sav just forgotten to include it, hopefully the former ? Keith Sorry to keep "harping" on about this, but this hasn't been answered yet. Will an extra piece need to be added to the current rule? Keith

Will an extra piece need to be added to the current rule? Keith At the moment you I cannot see why you want the rule book altered Keith?? is the rule and from the minutes of the 2009 AGM the proposal Tne rule has (or needs) no qualifications regarding any of the tournaments run at Reading. The Grand Prix is an AEBBA run tournament the same as all the others at Reading. Please explain. As far as this year is concerened the closing date for proposals has already passed. Sav

"Except the over 50s, 60s, & Grand prix day" so I'm asking should this sentence already be included in the rules or did the rule get amended and taken out ? Keith

The rule book was updated from the minutes of the AGM and that had no qualifications on the rule. Those minutes have been accepted as a true record at the following AGM. I would thus suggest that the rule stands as it is and its too late to alter it at this year's AGM. However, why start times need to be in a rule book I know not. They are an operational decision. Congratulations to Phil and to Steven, both were outstanding all day.
Another well run competition by Dave and his helpers.
It was also a pleasure to be in group with Steven, Dave and Lorin. It was good of Dave to be sympathetic to my cause by pegging his 17k break, with him already being 14k up from the first leg. Shame Steven wasn't so considerate in our game.Great day for ther first time I have qualified. Look forward to another go at it.

I should have played the 20 split but the 100 hole was looking like a bucket at that stage so took it on.... as we all know, buckets have rims though.... :-[ ;D ;D ;D

Well done Phil on winning the Grand Prix with some great performances during the day, not bad for someone who said, quote; “I’m only feeling about 40% right” so, what chance have we all got when you’re back to 100% ? It could though have been very different if Tony Woolvin had not missed on 18,300 when chasing Phil’s first game score of 19,000+ with well over a minute left!!....unlucky Tony. Phil’s score was amazing considering he missed both balls with his first shot and then missed again on 4,000!
Series One Phil beat Tony on agg (Report above)
I beat Dennis Atkins 2-0, Den was going well on 7,000 when he unfortunately whipped the one up out. I finished it off with 10,000 and then opened with about 11,000 including over 3,000 on the 50 pocket! ::)
Series Two Phil beat me 2-0, I left my one up short on 1,200 and that was my last shot, as Phil made a 17,000 brk and then played the table out with 20,000....Brilliant.
Dennis beat Tony 2-0, scrappy start to this one until Den got to grips with the table to make a brk of 7,000 for a lead of around 4,000 with his break to come. Not sure what happened in the second game but I think Den won it well.
Series Three Tony beat me on agg, Tony made up for losing the first two matches by playing the table out superbly with 19,400. I went on and left the one up short again by experiencing another case of “The Yips” before regaining my composure to finish with a score of 13,000.
Dennis beat Phil on agg, Den played the first game out with over 17,000 and although Phil won the second with a sizeable break he couldn’t overturn Dennis’s first leg score.
That’s group “D” reported on, so, what about the others, as there must have been some terrific matches played?
Well played Steven - that’s now SIX finals he’s been in this year, winning two and R/Up in four. I would say that’s a record that anyone would be proud of.....unless your name is KT. ::) :P ;)
I will also applaud Dave and his helpers who have worked very hard on the desk and delivering tables to all the venues over the year...well done. (Mind you, he does get paid a lot for doing it ;D ;))
Hope to see a lot of you next Sunday at the AGM, if not, have a Happy Christmas & see you all at the "Oxford Open" in the New Year.
Keith

That’s group “D” reported on, so, what about the others, as there must have been some terrific matches played? Some interesting games in Group "B".... Series 1 Lorin Clough and I had clearly come up with an "unspoken plan" to confuse our Group opponents in the first game.... ::) ....both of us had several goes at the break and found different ways to come off with me eventually winning it 4.3k to 4k. Lorin continued the tactics by losing his opening break in the second game, I managed to knock in a couple of breaks to end up with just under 11k. Gerry Fitzjohn had clearly fallen for "the plan" as he left his first one up short.... :'( .... Steven (unfortunately) hadn't taken any notice of us as he then ran the rest of the table out for about 14k, then played his break game out for 16.8k... although he did have one big slice of luck as he spun the red ball out of the 50 hole on a 50/10 split and watched it drop into the 200 hole just before the bar dropped! :o Series 2 Steven broke down on 6k in his break game, I didn't get the balls back but he did to add another 8.5k. I spun my second split out and left it touching the left hand white peg, managed to clear it but didn't get either ball down and that was the last time I got to the table with Steven running in a lovely 16.7k break. In the other game, Lorin off to a good start in his break game and he ended up with about 14k, second leg swung backwards and forwards with Gerry winning it 6.5k to 5.4k. At this stage, the winner of the Group was already decided with Steven having an unassailable lead... 8-) Series 3 Gerry was caught out by the thick break on table 4 and managed to leave both balls up on his opening shot.... :o .... I thanked him by playing the table out for 14.7k then decided to go for a big score on my break game.... as is documented elsewhere, all was going well until I spun a split out on 17k and took out a peg with a couple of minutes left.... :-[ .... we both had a couple of turns on the table with Gerry winning 980 to 230 at the end. ::) :'( ;D I didn't see what happened in the other final game but know that Steven hit 13.5k in Lorin's break game and then scored another 6.5k in his break game.... with Lorin perhaps conceding at that stage? ??? Steven finished as worthy group winner, winning all 6 legs with a total score of more than 80k.... a tremendous standard of play throughout all of the games. 8-) I would also agree with Gerry's comments.... Shame Steven wasn't so considerate in our game.Great day for the first time I have qualified. Look forward to another go at it. Very enjoyable company, plenty of laughs amidst the "serious stuff" in some good games on lovely tables. ;D ;D ;D
