Hi all,
I don't know if this is just a coincidence.... or if I have a problem with my computer.... but ever since we had the lovely Christmas lights and sprinkling snow falling, my computer seems very slow when accessing the Forum.... ::)
I haven't got a problem with any other website I use.... is it just me, or are any other people experiencing the same? I use Firefox as my default browser. ;)

I received a message yesterday evening saying "ProBoards is switching to a Brand New Server".
Leading up to that I'd had problems logging on (lasted about 30 minutes).
I was obliged to re-boot, ever since that it has worked fine.
Let us know if you keep experiencing difficulties.

I had a day of pages being slow to load and timing out but when I reloaded the page all was well. Presumably during the server changeover? Initially the lights and snow APPEARED to slow things down but I think this was connected with the above..
Anyway now we have snow and fairy lights, it must be Christmas.... ;D ;D
Tony
PS oh I've lost my snow now!
PPS It's back again now.... :D

Tony PS oh I've lost my snow now! PPS It's back again now.... :D Been playing all morning ;D ;D so snow may be intermittent, same with the lights, been building new strings of them frame by frame. Intention is to see if I can load a window border. There is a slight processor overhead on the snow, I noticed a couple of speed changes as well. The overhead is tunable via snow density and resolution. If anyone has problems now Proboards has settled down let me know and I'll cut down the amount of snow (I must be omnipotent!!). Sav

Sav I reckon it was around 8pm and it was a little message that flashed up and just caught my eye before it vanished. Before that I had been having problems which I associated with Firefox (message to close Firefox already running, but it just wouldn't close ..... and as I had tried everything else, I resorted to removing the battery from my laptop!)

Cheers Tommo, you would have thought forum owners would have been informed!
Finished playing with the lights after several hours of trying to get it right!! Also turned the smow frame and lights display rates down a but just in case, makes it a little stuttery. Snow is only on the home pages, but the lights are global.
Same as last year the board will be advert free over Xmas

I received a message yesterday evening saying " ProBoards is switching to a Brand New Server". Leading up to that I'd had problems logging on (lasted about 30 minutes). I think that I saw a similar message to that, although it must have been earlier in the evening (about 6.30pm) as I went out shortly after that.... earlier in the afternoon I had also had problems logging on and the "Bear Message" had come up a few times on Proboards then.... :-/ I am not having problems logging on now.... but it is definitely slower when the snow is falling on my computer.... :'( PS. The lights look very pretty.... Colleen says it's only 23 sleeps now.... :o ::) :-[ ;D ;D

??? Evening all. I have just logged on to the Bar billiard site and got the following message, "proboards.com is not responding due to a long - running script". This happens every time I come onto the site it just locks up. Fortunately there is a box to the right of the message that says Stop script when I click on this after about five seconds the site works, but locks up every time I change the page back to the home page with the same message appearing. I am using Internet Explorer 9.

Sounds a bit like my recent "Browser Problem", Richard. (Check the thread which can be found under Help and Support).
You have a little program running elsewhere which is interfering with your log-in.
You could try going to 'Settings' on your Control Panel and clear out your cookies and 'website visited history' and see if that makes any difference. Good luck !

Needs Windoze 7 for Internet Exploder 9 and the only thing I have that on is my rarely used laptop. It will take some time to update for me to compare.
There a lot of different scripts running on the forum but the snow is the only recent change to the home page. Do you see the snow when you've got on the home page?
I've dropped the snow density and cpu load down to way below what we used last year, how is it now?

I can recreate the problem, but it's not the snow as there ain't none at present!
Happens in IE8 and IE9
Some posts under support about IE problems will look further.

Believe I have found the problem after taking out one piece of coade at a time.
There was a mistake in the flag counter call section.
IE users please let me know if all is OK now

If it helps I didn't log-in until about 5pm and haven't had any problems or seen any messages. Windoze 7 Firefox 8.0 using NoScripts add-on as usual (which usually picks up strange things in scripts) haven't changed any settings on Laptop at all for a long time. Snow on front page works fine and twinklers and Santas look OK too.
ps Snow stopped now but was working.

Just started snowing again ;D , put a newer version of the snow code on which will disable it on mobiles etc that would struggle with it.
I've now finished troubleshooting, so repeat call for updates from those who were having problems in non Firefox browsers.
Interesting that the problem did not show in FF as it was an obvious coding mistake when I finally spotted it. Everything seems to work far more smoothly in Firefox

:) All's ok now. thought I'd give you a hour or so to sort it out before I came back on to try it, but after six bottles of Shepherd Neame 1698 I might not make much sense, but then again there are those that think I make more sense after a skin full of real ale. I suppose this is what you get for trying to build the ultimate machine, I hate windoze at the best of times, but I find with my set up windows 7 it fires up in about 50 seconds from start and shuts down in 20 seconds, my computer with XP on takes over 3 minutes to fire up and 1 and a half to shut down. Any way I know it's early but just in case I forget ( I've forgotten already ) ah I know what it was may I wish you all a merry Christmas and a brilliant new year.

Cheers Dave,
Some of the completed work on the border images may come in useful early next year as I'd like to give the forum appearance a revamp and a more professional look.

Thanks Ian,
Elements of each script have start statements to begin them and stop statements to end them. I had accidentally overwritten and deleted a stop statement. Firefox is intelligent enough to realise this and carry on, Internet Exploder is not. Hence the never ending script messages in IE.
So simple when you spot it!

I have lightened the CPU load further from the Christmas decs on the forum as I am finding Firefox still very sensitive to this board, whether or not on the snow page (home page only). I've made the lights flash more slowly and snow has almost stopped!
The CPU load under Firefox is still much higher than the same page under Internet Exploder on my PC. Sometimes the page does not respond to the mousewheel for example under Firefox because Firefox is gobbling loads of CPU on my PC.
Anyone else still having problems?
I'm switching to Exploder as my browser of choice (never thought I'd say that!)
