Sorry to be late in getting to this thread. This is a very hectic work time of year for me and I've hardly looked outside the Mid Sussex board.
With regard to the Mixed Pairs rankings - my reasoning is not that adding ranking points would boost entries, although it surely would not hurt.
My reasoning is that if ranking points are available for the Open Pairs, then they should also be available for the Mixed Pairs - in fact I was shocked when I found out recently that they weren't.
The standard of entries is normally very high for the Mixed Pairs, (even though entries are not huge) and there is very little potential for anyone to get 'carried' (much less than at the Open Pairs!) The amount of points on offer should reflect the much lower entries, perhaps with increased amounts being available if entries rise above a certain number.
