The achievements of the top players in the game are well documented both on the Forum and on the AEBBA website. Some of their exploits are legendary.
To balance this slightly, maybe it's time to spare a thought for some of the youngsters, in whose hands rest the future of the game.
So let's have your views on who exactly are the great new young prospects of the game.
Kevin Hall burst onto the scene a few years ago, and is destined one day to play for England, of that I'm sure.
Phil Collins, Steven Sheard and Chris Reeves are already seasoned Internationals.
Who else is there in their teens and twenties who are regularly 'scorching the cloth' ?
I'll start a list with a few on and you can add to it ! Apologies to all those not included so far...
Johnny George - Nthnts Stephen Coleman - Nthnts Nick Wren - Kent Mike Daw - Hastings Henry Brooks - Mid Sussex Adam Bateup - Mid Sussex Bob Hall - Mid Sussex Chris Elliott - Brighton Adam Squires - Worthing Chris Oakley - Littlehampton Martin Cole - West Sussex Aaron Hill - Redhill Debz Pearse - Redhill
+ Ian Gordon - Oxon Lewis Stratford - Oxon Adam Thorn - Oxon Melissa Standbridge - Oxon Kirsty Jarvis - Oxon Craig Mace - Oxon Phil McFarland - Oxon Adam Ingram - Oxon
+ (Brighton/Worthing): Kevin Hall Lorenzo Hickman James Osborn Damien Hickman Danny Driscoll Ryan Berrett Chris Cox Gary Mechan Daniel Wheal Ross Pettiford James Whittle Kenny Tinnion Joe Oakley Kristian Knudsson
+ (Hants) Lee Radford Daniel Woolvin Connor Messenbird
+ (Guernsey) Ben Wilding Luke Oliver Robert Chapple
+ (Jersey) James Jeanne
+ (Lewes) Ben Proctor Chris Smith Jamie Hall Lana Stoner Zoe Stoner
+ (Eastbourne) Jason Akehurst Chris Turner Chris Haggar
+ (Hastings) Jack Pope Sandy Harmer

I think Stormin' was referring to the term 'upset the formbook' (= 'surprises') rather than upsetting anyone personally, Chunks. ;D

I was merely pointing out that a when looking at the Rankings, a young player ranked at 236 beat players ranked 11th and 19th - what is known as upsetting the form book. Used quite often in Sporting situations, most recently in football, and I quote what was printed on several sports pages "Crystal Palace in huge upset of Manchester United in League Cup"

You can add Jamie Hall to the list. While he has only just started playing, at 17, he is already displaying a natural talent, and I think with a bit of experience, will prove to be quite the player. He's a lot better than I was when I first started!!

Recent additions included. Great to see teenagers taking up the game. Maybe when the list is exhausted, we should divide into 20 and overs and under 20s. :-/

Sussex are trying to encourage the younger element by introducing an under 30s tournament in June, this is open to all playerxs from Sussex, and hopefully will be a success and run for the foreseeable future.

Joe Oakley at 14 years of age playing regular doubles in the Littlehampton League, also played three times for the Swan `B`s in Wothing premier league and won one. I think a very good prospect for the future, could be better at his age than his brother Christoper Oakley.

Hopefully he enters the World Juniors this year :)

James Whittle, Martin Cole, Lorenzo Hickman, Joe Oakley, Mike Daw, Daniel Wheal, Jamie Hall, Henry Brooks, Rob Hall, Chris Hagger, Kristian Knudson, Chris Turner, Jason Akehurst and Kevin Hall all took part in this competition. For a summary of how the day went you can visit this thread, which also has a photo, plus a link to the Sussex website showing all the scores etc: barbilliards.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=sussex&action=display&thread=12324#

Id like to propose young adam ingram to the list (no relation to dave as far as we know! So thats the dispute about where hes from that arose at bucks sorted :p) hes an oxford league and soon to be wallingford league player who has taken some cracking scalps (dave ingram at kent!) and ever improving despite a torrid debut and first tournament (under 22s)

Jack Pope looks a good prospect and seems to know many of the shots already, despite only playing his sixth competitive match tonight. Hopefully he will continue playing and maybe Colin Southouse can convince him to play in next years Sussex under 30's. Jack Pope, plus Big Phil's suggestion Adam Ingram have been added to the list.

Thought it would be nice to bump this thread from 7 1/2 years ago, especially as some of the acknowledged prospects have now become household names !
