There is no Portsmouth Open next Year, will others pull out with falling numbers and no support ?? Brian, Mary, Tony and Kady did a fantastic job but without them we are nothing... Well it shouldn't really be that great a shock after all the negative feedback of last year, but it's still a blow when we lose an Open event off the calendar. I would like to thank Brian, Mary, Tony, Kady and others on the sidelines for all the hard work put in to organise past Pompey Opens: I'd taken part in the last five, and though my record wasn't great, I enjoyed every one of them. Maybe some good will eventually come of this and we'll see the Portsmouth Open return, bigger and better.

I am disappointed at this news, I always said I would still be attending this year if the event went ahead.
I also hope with you CLive that the event can come back at some point bigger and better.

Sad news indeed.... we were certainly planning on being there next year. :'( I can only echo the thoughts of Nigel and Tommo and say that I hope that the event will return in future.... ;)

This certainly is sad news.
There must obviously be a reason, so maybe someone could explain? Was it to do with the criticism received last year over the tables? Is it to do with money/finances? The venue? Nobody to run it?

I'm very disappointed to hear that we have lost the "Portsmouth Open" from the 2012 calendar.
This Open tournament holds many good memories for me, as it's one that I've won on at least three occasions, the most recent and also the last time that I won an "Open" was in 2010 when I played (Gentleman) Mark James in the final. That was the first time the nice "New Cup" was put up for the winner, talking of which, I've still got the plinth for it at home!
Sadly, last years tournament was the first one that I'd missed and I do hope that it hasn't been cancelled this year due to the "negative" comments that came about on here regarding last years competition.

news and hope this is not the thin edge of the wedge. Again hope it is not due to all the negativity from this years open, the organisers are hard working, supportive members of bar billirds for many a year and can only be thanked for all their hard work in the past. I too hope it is only a temporary measure, and look forward to saying Portsmouth back on.
