The first major event of the bar billiards year was the annual meeting between the Jersey and England Mens teams. In a new venue at the Ardington Hotel, Worthing, the England Men were looking to avenge last years landslide defeat of 22-11 at the hands of the Jersey men. Jersey made a decent start winning 3 of the first 7 legs to trail by one, but they lost the next 4 to trail 3-8 at half time. Nigel Senior made a 20,540 break - the highest in the match. In the second half England turned up the pressure and took 6 of the first 7 legs and with aggregates coming into play the lead grew to 21-4. A late rally by Jersey saw them win 2 matches by Bob King and 2005 World Champ Graeme Le Monnier making the final score 25-8. Mark Brewster, Steven Sheard, Nigel Senior, Richard Wooton and Surrey's own Geoff Jukes recorded the 3-0 wins for England. ..................and again.
Geoffrey performed well for England against Guernsey at the Wayside Cheer on Saturday, winning his tie 3-0.
And he carried his form through to Sunday in the 3rd Guernsey Open, with the early scalps of 2008 Winner Nigel Senior and 2008 and 2009 runner-up Trevor Gallienne. Consistent performer Dave Hampton was his next victim, but Guernseyman Andy Rundle was a bridge too far, keeping Geoff off the table with some deliberate play.
For his place in the Last 8 Geoff has a cheque coming to him for prize money of 75 quid - if I remember to bring it with me to the Surrey Open that is. ;)

Thanks guys. Yes, I did have a good weekend, winning both my pairs and singles games against Guernsey. I thought my form had dipped after losing in the singles the previous tuesday, but it was back to normal last weekend. that makes me unbeaten in a England shirt this year. Quite pleasing I suppose. It has been a tough season. Lost to Andy on the sunday on a top that was not easy, only had one go at the break...

I played that one against Chris T and managed to get the cue ball into the 10 pocket from the center of the "D" :o I didn't play it but the hardest one on the day must have been table 5, as everyone struggled on that top. I think the best break on it was 5,000 by the Eynsham maestro Geoff Powell.
