Hi Jean,
Although I believe we have booked tables for the 2nd Surrey Open next May I don't think any of our other dates for 2010 have been announced.
Bear in mind that we have lost the Frenches Club as a venue, and some of our regular competitions had to be shuffled (for example our One-Day Interleague took place much later than normal).
We hold our AGM on 7th July and the dates probably won't be known till then.
Anyone know if there will be a Bucks Open this year ?

Hi Trying to do a date list for our Sussex AGM and sort our inter-league fixtures. Can anyone let me know if the date has been fixed for the 2010 Redhill invitation Thanks Jean Having now touched base with our Chairman, Gary Powell, I can now give details of two of the three special Redhill weekends. The weekend in April where we held the BIOC Ladies at the Frenches Club (the last competition to be held there) is up for discussion and may be switched to the Limes (where the Frenches' table has found a resting place). So these dates are definite : Sat 23rd Jan 2010 - One-Day Mixed Doubles Sun 24th Jan 2010 - The Redhill Team Invitation. Sat 8th May 2010 - Surrey One-Day Inter-League Sun 9th May 2010 - The 2nd Surrey Open. We have booked 8 tables with Brian Daniels (pp the AEBBA) for the first weekend, and 10 tables for the second weekend. St Nicholas School, Mestham will be the venue for both. Hope that this is of use.

No problem, Jean, and I can now even confirm the date for the BIOC Ladies, as I have received this communication this morning from Gary:
"Morning Clive,
The proposed date for the BI Ladies is Sunday 11th April 2010 at the Reigate Ex Servicemans Club. Tables are booked just have to confirm the venue.
Cheers Gary"

Sunday 24th Jan 2010 - Redhill Invitation Team Event, at St Nicholas's School, Merstham. 11.30 sharp for 12.00 start.
The following teams have been invited and where confirmed are shown in yellow :
1. Brighton - confirmed by Gina Sherrat 2. Mid Sussex - confirmed by Lorraine Hall Portsmouth - withdrawn, unable to provide a side. 3. Redhill 'A' - confirmed by Colin Robbins 4. Tunbridge Wells - confirmed by Pete Sainsbury 5. Worthing - confirmed by Kevin Tunstall 6. Horsham - confirmed by Vernon Sparkes 7. Redhill 'B' - confirmed by Richard Plaw Littlehampton - declined, unable to accept at short notice Worthing 'B' - declined, unable to accept at short notice 8. Oxford - confirmed by Sean Stratford
A fun event, one of the best on the Surrey calendar. Catering and bar arrangements will be along the lines of the Surrey Open back in May. (Used to be played at the Frenches which has now closed).
With the extra tables available this year, we are investigating a schedule where all teams can play all, meaning everyone gets 7 games!

Portsmouth couldn't quite make two teams last year and we knocked together a 'composite team' - so yes please go ahead.
As soon as that you can confirm that you have your squad let me know and that will complete our line-up. Its £25 a team by the way (as stated on the invitations sent out).

Have just heard from Richard Hockey that unfortunately Pompey can't make it, so Littlehampton will be invited, albeit at short notice.

Worthing 'B' are interested and I have given Nick Brown a few days to see if he can organise a team. It's a 'no' now from Worthing 'B', so we're going further afield and offering Oxford the slot. 8-)

I'm pleased to confirm that Oxford have accepted, and will now complete our line-up of 8 teams. Here, to whet the appetite, is a link to last year's competition thread, for anyone who wants to reacquaint themselves with the format : barbilliards.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=redhill&action=display&thread=4168We look forward to seeing everyone at St Nicholas's School on Sunday for registration between 11.30 and 12.00 and a prompt start. Good luck on the day!

Another excellent day of bar billiards at St Nicholas School, to complete a hectic weekend..................
Redhill A (team: Dave Constable, Geoff Jukes, Gary Powell, David Jones, Terry Oakley, Jason Wadsworth, Jim Greensted) regained their own Invitation Title last won two years ago, and Worthing (team: Kevin Tunstall, Ian Lelliott, Tony Lewis, Dave Ingram, Dave France, Hayley Tunstall and Nick Brown) were worthy Runners-up. Third place went to Mid Sussex. Redhill B won the drinking ! and I think Oxford again won the 'most Butterscotch Tart' challenge. ;D
Final Placings:
1 Redhill A 35pts 2 Worthing 31pts 3 Mid Sussex 27pts 4= Brighton 25pts 4= Horsham 25pts 6 Oxford 18.5pts 7 Tunbridge Wells 18pts 8 Redhill B 16.5pts
Highest break awards for each of the teams taking part went to :
Redhill A - Geoff Jukes Worthing - Kevin Tunstall Mid Sussex - Kevin Hall Brighton - Steve Aylmore Horsham - Ricky Dewdney Oxford - Simon Ellam Tunbridge Wells - Pete Sainsbury Redhill B - Richard Plaw
The usual thank-yous etc to the Organisers, and as mentioned before the table hire went smoothly (plaudits to Dave Alder and his helpers) which bodes well for the future of the game.
Good to see Gina Sherrat there, thanks to all who took part, and our special mention for Oxford (Mark Trafford, Simon Ellam and Sean and Lewis Stratford) for once again making the journey down the M40 to make up a full complement of teams.
Other comments on the day are invited.

Congratulations to Redhill A for their victory yesterday, a lot of close competitive games on the day with some of the tables proving to be a "little challenging" at times...... ::)
Many thanks to all of the organisers for their hard work in arranging another well run event at their new venue. 8-)
Great to see the Oxford boys again, many thanks to them for making the journey down at very short notice..... ;D

Another well organised day, good competition and Redhill A deserved winners on day. Thanks to those who put themselves out to organise this great day, the venue although not quite as good as Frenches is an able substitute. Yes Clive great to see Gina there and as always a privelege to play along side her, she is one hell of a lady.

the venue although not quite as good as Frenches is an able substitute. Thanks for your diplomacy, TJ, in only 'hinting', but this is why i invited comment. Yes, Horsham too said they had preferred the Frenches, where everything was 'closer to hand'. The school did have a problem with the heating of the hall - maybe it was a 'cunning plan' to lure people to cosy warmth of the canteen ! ;) This is a point which will be recorded and hopefully redressed for the future. :-/

Great moment when Gary and DC moved to the far corner of the stage to make Richard's walk to collect his trophy that little bit longer ! ;D He just about managed to walk in a straight line......(don't think Wilko would have managed it, tho') :o

Thoroughly enjoyable day and great fun had. My first competition entered without drinking and it was funny to see other people getting drunk while i stayed sober, although i can now see what i am usually like at the end of a tournament ;D Thanks for the invite and hope to get a bit more notice next year if offered a place :)
