A couple strange thimgs about last night. 1. The cap park only had cars for sale in it. and 2. Several times last night there was 12 people trying to fit in a small room where the match was being played whilst the rest of the (quite large) pub was completely empty.

No change there then Regg3y, you want to play a singles in there when the heating isn`t switched on lol

There isn't a 'car park' it's private property but sometimes you can cheekily get a spot on the premises, besides, there are many other pubs that you have park quite a way away (Duke of Wellie, Tarring Club or NSH for instance). 2. Again, there are many places that have a small room to play in, we requested it be put in there due to the problems we had before with people knocking the table in the main area. Quite a few places share this.. the Tarring Club, Marine View, Duke of Wellie and the Majority of the Brighton based tables. PS All you have to do is ask them to put one or more of the heaters on?! [edit - confrontationary comment removed - tommo]Very few venues in either Worthing or Brighton have car parks, not really a problem as you can usually find a fairly convenient parking space although the seafront is sometimes tricky when we visit the Cellar Bar or Marine View. The room itself at the Dolphin is very crowded when there are 2 teams in there, although other venues also have their tables in small areas, this is probably the smallest independent room without having "open" area near to it. It is a pity that the table isn't in an area that is regularly heated, that would probably make it play better than it does when you go in there and it is cold, but I do understand that there are reasons why this room was chosen to put the table in. The biggest problem that I have with this as a venue though is the actual position that the table has been placed in, with a wall immediately next to the table and running the full length of the right hand side, meaning that it is impossible to play a shot to the 200 hole from that side of the table and if a ball comes back more than 6 inches from the left hand 50 hole it would become unplayable. :o I do not understand why it has been put in that position....? There is at least 4 feet of clear space (enough room for a scorer, table and 2 chairs) to the left of the table and simply moving the table 6 inches to the left, or even putting it at an angle away from the wall, would resolve the problem easily. ::) I am surprised that there is not a rule in Worthing League about having "clear access" to play shots around the table.... there is one in the Brighton League Rules:- C15. The table shall be so positioned that it is possible to play a ball into any part of the playing area from the playing ‘D’ using a cue Fifty Four inches in length and a maximum stroke of Ten inches. The table at the Dolphin would certainly not allow that and, for that reason, I do not think it should be used as a venue for League games or Team / Individual Competitions until that problem is resolved. I would suggest that Worthing League should have a rule about this, as clearly a player should be able to play any shot around the table during the course of a match if required. ;)

You are quite right Dave, our table complies to the rules whether people like it or not.
What no one seems to realise is that it is not our choice to have the table where it is nor it not being sufficiently heated for the likes of some of you.
We apologize that it isn't in a perfect position with lots of seating, parking, cheap ale and a roaring fire but lets be realistic, it didn't work where it used to be so this was the only solution apart from making a B team somewhere else which the league constantly objects to due to losing another venue.
Why the sudden attack on our venue? We may as well start another thread where everyone can throw in their 2 cents about every table and pub they don't like.

With respect Enzo, it was not an attack on the venue, the Dolphin is a very nice venue that has plenty of room and has often hosted the Worthing Masters and Off the Spot Competitions due to it's size and good hospitality. 8-) What I do not understand is why the table has to be positioned where it is.... when simply moving it a few inches to the left would solve the problem. ::) However, as you rightly say, the table does comply with the current Rules in Worthing.... which obviously need to be looked at if players cannot play shots to certain parts of a table as that surely has to be a prerequisite for any League or Competition Table at a venue. :P
