I am pleased to advise that SCBBA are looking at the option of playing a Sussex Under 30's Competition on Saturday 9th June 2012 at the Roffey Club in Horsham. ;D
This competition would be played alongside the Sussex Masters Competition and players would probably only be able to play in EITHER the Masters OR the Under 30's Competition due to the schedule of the Masters, however we would look into all of the options for that nearer to the time.
There would be an Entry Fee of £3 per player and the Competition would only be run of there were a MINIMUM of 8 players taking part.
To enable us to make a decision on whether to go ahead, please would any interested players respond to this thread with names of Entries and, if it looks viable, we will then confirm that the competition will go ahead and send Entry Forms out.
Please would Forum members advise any young Sussex players about this competition, SCBBA are keen for this to go ahead and hope that it will become a regular feature in future years. 8-)
Thank you.
Potential Entries List
1) Mike Daw 2) Henry Brooks (subject to Sussex Masters) 3) Jamie Hall 4) Martin Cole (subject to Sussex Masters) 5) Daniel Wheal 6) Rob Hall 7) Lorenzo Hickman 8) Kevin Hall (subject to Sussex Masters) 9) Chris Oakley 10) Kristian Knudson

Good stuff. I'll reserve entering myself until we see how the rest of the season pans out. I will however, spread the word to as many people as I can.

Sorry Dave but even though I would love to play in both the masters (especially as I should qualify for the second year in a row), and under 30's unfortunatley I am unable to make either as they fall in the Cricket season, as is the problem for me with most of the open's! If it were held during the winter months I would definatley be one of the first names on the list :-)
Hopefully the comp will be a sucess as it is a great idea, and there needs to be more possible titles for us youngsters :-D
Cheers, Adam

Cheers, Adam Can fully understand as I'm sure Dave can as he was playing cricket well into his forties (and me for the department at work). Also John Thayre was still opening the batting for Alfold at the age of 50 ! Gerry Smith was another ace cricketer (played for Horsted Keynes). Anyone know of any others ?

Think you better have a chat with Brian Muggeridge, still playing for Adelaide in Brighton, i think he is over 50? ;D We used to have some nice little tussles a few years ago when i was playing for Eastbourne Martlets CC regs cs

Entry Forms for the Sussex Under 30's Competition are now available on the Sussex Website using the following link... www.sussexbarbilliards.com/Sussex/Ind%20comps/Under30%27s%20Entry%20Form%202012.htmIf anybody is having any problem downloading the form, please let me know and I can email an entry form to you. I would ask all forum users to encourage the younger players to enter this competition as the future of the game is in their hands. 8-)

I'm pleased to advise that we have now think that we can have a format that would allow eligible players to take part in both the Sussex Masters and the Under 30's Competition, although it would depend on how many entries we get for the Under 30's Competition.
Please would players that would like to take part register their interest here and return their entry forms to me as soon as possible. ;)
Many thanks.

Just a quick note on this, i captain my local village team and one of our players is 65! We also have a player in our league who is 76!!!

In that case I'm in. Assume I can pay you on Monday dave? Of course you can H.... 8-) Would Jamie Hall be interested in entering from your team as well....? Although I know that it's only his first season, it might be good experience for him to watch some of the players in the Sussex Masters as well as playing in a competition with other younger players. ;)

I'll talk to him. It may be a little daunting at this stage. I don't want to throw him in with the big boys too quickly for fear of putting him off, but I'll certainly offer him the chance. If he's free he might be up for coming out for a beer anyway since I could drive him over.

We certainly wouldn't want to scare anybody off, but I'm hoping that we will get entries from some of the younger players of all standards, not just the "big boys". I found that I learned a lot from watching the better players at Open Competitions when I started to enter them and would certainly recommend any players (young or not so young) who want to improve their game should enter the competitions. ;)

Typical, this competition is offered up just as I turn 31 ::). I will have a chat with a few people down my way to see if I can drum up some interest.

Spoke to a couple of guys tonight. Bravo said he was definately interested whilst Jason, who plays for me on a Monday, also seemed quite keen, although is in the same position as Jamie in terms of experience. He said he was interested and may confirm at a later date.

He said he was interested and may confirm at a later date. We are hoping (subject to the numbers entering) to run the competition on a round robin basis so players would all get more than one match and Jean has worked out a format that would enable this to be played on the same day as the Masters without preventing players from entering both competitions. 8-) This system would work with less than 16 entries, if we get more than that we may have to look at a knock-out competition for the Under 30's instead. Obviously, the sooner we know how many entries we are likely to receive we can look at the options in more detail. ;)
