Goodbye to Richborough Power Station Towers Thousands there to see it. We were there at the crack of dawn and were next to the news cameras in pole position. We still had to defend our view from inconsiderate idiots that tried to muscle their way in during the last half hour. Fortunately the marshals were not allowing anyone nearer than us to the news cameras. Only problem was no tea wagon where we were, topping up now!! ;D ;D Sav

Now you see 'em and now you don't !
Look at the scale of those rascals against the surrounding poplars.........a quick Wikipedia check reveals that the towers were 318ft tall and the chimbley, at 416ft, taller than Salisbury cathedral !
A great improvement to the landscape, but I'll bet there'll be a few homeless pigeons right now thinking "WTF" ! ;D

Wow, I had no idea they were to be demolished, they may not have been pretty but they were a part of the Kent skyline, I always used to love driving down past them, a clear indication that I was nearly at journeys end.
I for one will miss them :'(

It really seemed strange driving back without those monsters there. Amusing that, twenty years ago, everybody hated the orimulsion emissions that left black soot everywhere, now they were campaigning to save them!!
Absolutely surgical slice around the top of the reinforced area at the base of each tower, fascinating to watch happen with a thousand odd people all counting down with the marshalls' radio sets and clapping after.
As close as we were it still took a good second for the enornous bangs to follow the flashes.
Different view from our hilltop location now ten miles away.

Yeah, really good.
Quite a time delay with the speed of sound.
Some good comments, too: "Can we have an action replay ?" and "That was just the rehearsal", etc.

Thanks, I was surprised how few views it has had compared with far poorer videos.
