It was a happy Valentines Day for the Z's who before the match languished nine points off the pace. Mick Holmwood drew the short straw, against the break, and watched for 13 minutes while his opponent compiled a chanceless frame-winning break. Mike White can be excused for playing at such a leisurely pace considering his earlier adventures of the day (stranded at Leicester due to a blown head gasket and having to be rescued by the AA).
One of the most sociable nights of the year for us - the pub has been nicely redecorated and the table is in a more convenient place for spectating. Giggling Jenny Arnold played in the friendly afterwards which was entertaining too, and a young lad of 13 called Danny (who is Andre's nephew) partnered her in what was only his second-ever game. Believe me, he looks good even at this early stage and is a great prospect (given the right sort of encouragement and guidance).
Scores, starting with an excellent game won on the last ball :
Windmill, Burgess Hill 1, Handcross 'Z' 4
Steve Smith 4080, Johnny Haigh 4230 Andre Layzell 990, Alan Downs 6610 John Slatcher B/P, tommo 7140 Mike White 7510, MrMike007 620 Lyn Storr 1680, Barry Timson 4370

We hurst club unfortunatly only turned up with only 4 players, Roy was rushed into Hospital tuesday night but he is ok. There were no big scores to night on what was a very tricky table. i did have the scores written down but seem to have missed placed them. There were to BLACK PEGS to night 1 from both sides.

I heard through the grapevine that Roy was suffering from chest pains, and his condition is probably due to him being under a lot of stress.
Our thoughts are with him and we hope he makes a full recovery.

Bad week for the A team. As we loose another match at home. Handcross 1 Plough 4. :'( :'( Sorry Tommo we let the Plough get further ahead we didn't do ourselves any favours although the gap for you is the same. We sstruggled to adjust to our new top. Geoff Parsons top scored on 5280 while Q was our top with 3330 . I took the point from Keith Potter 3190 to 2840 getting the break back near the end then burrying the red after the bar had dropped to make it safe. ;D ;D Come back John.

Report by Roy Wells Greyhound had their lead reduced to just two points after an unusual home defeat to Kleiners. Chris Watson put the home side ahead with a comfortable win in the first only to have it cancelled out by a close win for Derek Taylor in the next. Kleiners’ Ted Stringer then put the visitors in front with his side’s best score of the evening. Neil Burchell hit big in the fourth to make it two all leaving Jenny Edwards to take the last leg and the match for Kleiners to open up a gap at the top of division 1. Plough moved up on Greyhound after a solid away win at Handcross. Mark Webber and Des Gasson took the first two legs before Ian Giffen stopped the rot with The A Team’s only win of the evening. Geoff Parsons put in the best score to take the match and the last game was mopped up by Malc Fuller. The Zeds stay in touch with Plough after an impressive win at Windmill, a match that produced some good scores. Jonny Haigh took the first for Zeds in a close contest with Steve Smith, both players scoring over 4K. This was followed by a big hit for Alan Downs and a big 7K+ score for Zed’s skipper Clive Thompson to take the match. Mike White put in a great performance with the best score of the evening anywhere to prevent the brush. The last frame went to Barry Timson. Watermill move up one place in division 1 after a home win against Hurst. Norman Cragg put the home side in front with a win in the first, a lead that was cancelled out by Lorraine Hall in the next. Hurst’s Kevin Hall put the visitors in front but John Willis evened it up by taking the fourth. Hurst could only field four players so Watermill gratefully took the match and the bonus points. Saints stay second in the lower division despite a home defeat to Droops who took the first three legs with wins for Richard Jeffrey, Andy Farmer-Wright and Adam Bateup. Chris Little and Shaun Morris pulled two important points back for the home side in the fourth and fifth legs. White Horse find themselves level with Watermill despite a home win against the Vees. Horse’s captain Brian Coleman showed the way by taking the first game and his example was matched by Colin Mansfield to put the home side two up. Gary Foster stopped the slide with the Vees first point and he was followed by Tony Driver who took a low scoring fourth to even it up at two each. The decider went to Ian Turner of the Horse to keep the Vees resting gently on the bottom.
