'Z's bounce back..... ..............................or rather pull back from the precipice, because that's what we we staring into tonight.
Bear in mind that the A's have already completed the league double over us this season - it was 3-2 before Christmas when they had to give us 3 breaks as the home team, and then there was last week's humiliating 5-0.
Tonight they were quickly 2-0 up and a newly-arrived Q was there polishing his cue fresh from a quick warm-up in the Brighton League.
The third game was two-thirds of the way through when MrMike007, a good thousand behind, tried a different approach to the break and switched to one-down and 100-split and played this with perfect accuracy to clinch the game as the bar dropped.
The fourth game was one-way traffic, Barry handling the pressure well to make it 2-2, and then it was down to a battle of the Forum Staff.
Well, Ian only went off with a couple of hundred and tommo was rather pleased with his 700 start after making no sense of the break and chasing the balls everywhere. Then Ian got 'em back and returned a superb thousand break which sent tommo into panic mode. It had to be answered with better than had been offered so far and tommo settled into a strange but effective routine of one-down and an in-off 100 and down to the thirty on the right-hand side of the table which eventually got him 2000 ahead.
Even then it was bottom-twitching time as Ian came back with another superb 1000 and hadn't looked like missing. But another 500 with the bar due and the game was tommo's.
We feel like we've really been in a match. Well done but unlucky the A's. The Z's apparently will play the Greyhound in the Final.
Team Cup Semi, played at Windmill, Burgess Hill, 28/3/2007
Handcross SC 2, Handcross 'Z' 3
John Lear 3120, Johnny Haigh 1290 Darrell Skinner 2100, Alan Downs 1730 Q 2900, MrMike007 3420 Chris Kirkham 920, Barry Timson 5590 IanG 2580, tommo 4660

Well what can i say about last night. we played the Greyhound at a very crowded Brewers, and in the words of Jock we were kicked off the table and out of the room, across the street and into a waiting van.
Greyhound 4 - 1 Hurst Club
Trevor BEAT Roy Paul BEAT Father Hall Neil BEAT Boball Chris LOST TO BB REAPER Peter BEAT Mother Hall
The Greyhound certainly took off like Greyhounds taking the first three legs and turned the Hurst Club into Poodles, Games Two and Three were both very close and was going either way just not ours.
WELL DONE to the Greyhound and the best of luck in the Final. And also a thankyou to the Brewers for the lovely food.

Hard luck Hurst it could easily have gone the other way in any of the first three games. I add my thanks to the Brewers for the food but playing on an England football night was a bit tricky with the pub busier than I have ever seen it.

Well done the Greyhound on making the Team Cup Final, and unlucky to the Hurst. So two lots of success already to the Greyhound, and also apparently to the Plough, who I heard beat the Windmill in their Plate Semi-Final. Anyone know how the Victory v Brewers finished ?

Hey guys Result for the Brewers V Victory is still undecided. Bit of an unusual night over at Klieners.
Openiong match was a close one between Rob driver and young Alan Humphrey, with Rob stealing it at the end.
Rob Driver 2170 Alan Humphrey 1740 1-0 second up was myself against Gordon Brett, who missed the break and let me in to clear them away and rack a 4000+ break. Gordon tried hard but to be fair I really gave no quarter.
Gordon Brett 720 Richard Jeffrey 6500 1-1 Next up was Trevor Appleby againt Colin 'noddy' Humphrey. Noddy put in a sterling performance against a stuggling Trevor, on a difficult break table, with noddy running out the eventual winner.
Trevor Appleby 1000 Colin Humphrey 3920 1-2
now it begins to get interesting, with young Adam Bateup, being a no show, the Brewers were forced into conceding a game give Pam Peacock the walkover. 2-2
Unfortunatly Andy Farmer Wrights wife was rushed into hospital just before the start of game 3, and Andy had to leave, we hope she is well and our thoughts and good wishes are with the big man and Carol!!!!!!!!
Under these circumstances Roz Appleby at this point offered for her and Andy FW to play their deciding match on another night. BIG round of applause and thanks to Roz for an excellant display of compassion, understanding and fairplay. RESPECT!!!!!
Roz Appleby V Andy Farmer Wright (being played Tuesday 3rd April, subject to confirmation)
Well done to the Grey Hound and comiserations to the Hurst monsters!!!!!!
Bring on the Z'ds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow Sir Jock 'o'the Strap, quite a loaded post and lots to answer there. First of all, hoping Andy's wife is okay and able to make a full and speedy recovery. Very worrying times. Secondly, great credit to Ros (Charlady) for her gesture. Jock you're in superb form at the mo' and no doubt you've a van ready and waiting tonight outside the Windmill to whisk Sparky away in after your Singles. I was going to have a looky in afterwards after my own one at the Watermill, but unfortunately it has been called off. Good luck to both players. Finally, you needn't worry about coming up against the Zeds - your reward if Andy beats Ros on the 3rd is a Final against the Plough (different competition !) ;)

And..............!
...............in the open doubles Sir Jock o The strap V Trevor Rees (hope the spelling is right)
Sir Jock 2 Trevor Rees 0
A good match from my own point o view, with me winning the toss in the first (no illicit comments please) I chose to lead off and promptly 4 balled my opening break, giving Trev the break back I thought bollocks!!!!! large ones there goes game one. But alas poor Trev the billiard gods were shining down upon me and he only notched up 600. we both plinked around for a bit and I eventually won the break back with the god touched 'miricle' shot clearing all four balls in one shot and carrying on to rack up 6800. 1-0 to me.
Trev broke of in the second and again only managed 600, a very scrappy bits 'n' pieces game really, with no one really making an impact until I nicked the break back and slipped in 2000+ at the end to finish the Trevminator off!
Bad luck Trev, good luck in the seniors.
next installment sir Jock o the Strap takes on Graham 'sparky' sparksman YeeeeeeeHaaaaaaa!

Oh what a night !!!!!!. Man of the match has to be Mr Mike 007who saved the z'ds from 2 - 0 down the newly shortened cue worked supremely well. He dug in after trying all sorts of ways to get the break pouncing as soon as Q came off the table & played one up & spilts to win by 500. Big well done to Tommo I really enjoyed our game it was a great battle if only you didn't get the break back 6 or 7 or 8 times I might have stood a chance. You were in determined mode & nobody would have stopped you if thats what being married 25 years does bring it on. You & Margo looked great. Ian.

Cheers Ian, As was said on the night, it could have been drawn differently and we could have had an all-Handcross Final and that would have made a worthy one.
Re margo, this went up earlier on the Surrey board, but is more relevant to Mid Sussex:
We stretched the celebs out for one further day with Margo and Johnny Haigh hitting the white wine at the end of the evening, and Johnny got quite sozzled and had to be shoe-horned out of the car. ;)
Belated congrats to Sparky and Elaine - Sparky you don't look old enough to have been married 34 years. ;)

No probs, Jock, but there is a wee one with your previous post where you have described your Braveheart vanquishing of the Trevminator. This of course belongs on the thread where the singles and doubles draws were given rather than on this one which is for Team Cup. Maybe if we ask a moderator nicely he will swap it over for you. ;)

hey all
Result of our final game of our semi final match against the mighty Victory.
Andy Farmer Wright 3690 Roz Appleby 2370. ;D
A great game all in all, Andy wining the toss and electing to play first, banking a 1000 to start, Roz struggled a little with the speed o table in the early stages, Andy raced away with a further 2000 and then seemed to relax as Roz rallied to the cause with a sterling effort in the last five minutes to make it an uncomfortable finish for the Farmer lad. ;)
Bring on the Plough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Big thanx again to Roz for an excellent display of sportsmanship, and to her entire team for the great night we had in the 'friendly' doubles matches afterwards. In which the Victory were subjected to the 'white van man' treatment with Brewers pairings thumping them 5-0. :D
