Handcross Z's well-oiled machine was kick-started into action for a first win of the season. A gallant Windmill side offered brave resistance on their top - which seemed to hold fewer horrors than last season - and Lyn Storr got them off to a fine start, sinking the last 200 shot to beat margo by 90. Mick Holmwood was then dominant for two frames in succession and actually scored every point of the doubles frame partnering tommo ! :-[ ::) Margo then teamed up to win with John Turner, thumb heavily bandaged following a gardening mishap earlier in the day with a pair of secateurs which had involved a visit to the casualty ward. Finally, Windmill pulled back a frame when Alan Downs left himself too much to do following a felling of the black half way through. A very pleasant evening in relaxed company. The food provided was very tasty - fresh bridge rolls filled with a) ham and tomato and b) tuna and lettuce. Windmill 2, Handcross 'Z' 3
Lyn Storr 2970, margo 2880 Jan Hinkins 2700, MrMike007 3640 Jenny Arnold & Jan Hinkins 2330, MrMike007 & tommo 4710 Rodney Storr & Steve Smith 2340, John Turner & margo 3160 Peter Hinkins 2710, Alan Downs 1150

Thats an unusual looking Windmill lineup, but I suppose they have lost Mike & Janey White to the best county in the land ;) and Andre is on his round the world expedition..
Good to see Lynn & Rod back in the Windmill colours

Plough 3 Hurst B 2 Plough took the first 2 getting used their new 3 day old top, They then wrapped it up by taking the first Doubles whichg really could have gone our way. So we entered damage limitation mode & took the second doubles. followed by Steve King making his Mid Sussex debut chasing a 2500 deficit which had dispatched knocking in a 4500 break against Daniel Webber son of Mark. As ever the food was good especially the firery cheese on toast & parsons pickles. :D :D

Brewers Droops 2 v St Francis 3
A very scrappy set of games with the table changed from Monday, somehow ?, and the St Francis lads got the better of us. I don't have the scores, which is just as well as they were awful :-[ :o

followed by Steve King making his Mid Sussex debut Would be better to describe it as his first match, returning to Mid Sussex after many years.

Thats an unusual looking Windmill lineup, but I suppose they have lost Mike & Janey White to the best county in the land ;) Didn't realise that Mike and Janey had moved to Dorset. :o ;D I don't think the Windmill need feel inferior in any way - they all played with competence. Lyn staged a great comeback at the end, and who knows what Jan might have been capable of had she not had the misfortune to be up against Mick in both her games.

Roy has now provided his report on all of last week's play. Here is an extract for the two results hitherto unknown :
(Pool 1) Sportsman 3, Greyhound 2 Sportsman played their first competitive match at their new home and recorded a win against Greyhound. Gary Foster put the home side in front, a lead that was quickly cancelled out by Chris Watson in the next. Mr & Mrs A won well in the first of the pairs with Gary Foster and Tony Driver following suite to take the next and the match. In a captains’ game to finish the evening, Peter Burchell got the visitor’s second point.
(Pool 2) Watermill B 3, CKRBL 2 Watermill B played their first competitive game ever and recorded their first win at home to Kleiners. Martin Range put the home team ahead after winning the first singles leg of his lift, a short lived lead that was cancelled out by Mark Coles for the visitors. The lead was retrieved when Tim Hartley and Dave Tucker took the first of the pairs, but all things were evened up once more when mark and Lynn Moyes-Robb took a closely contested fourth leg. First blood for the Bees as Steve Larkwell took the final frame and the match.
And the table........... Team played won points Pool 1 Brewers Bravos 2 2 8 Sportsman 2 1 5 Greyhound 2 0 4.5 Plough 2 1 4 White Horse 2 0 3.5 Watermill A 1 1 3 Hurst Club 1 0 2 Pool 2 Windmill 2 1 6 CKRBL 2 1 5 St Francis 2 1 4 Handcross Z 1 1 3 Watermill B 1 1 3 Hurst Club 1 0 2 Brewers Droops 1 0 2
