I managed to beat Andy Hall 2-0 at the Plough, despite the distraction of Liverpool scoring loads of goals in the Champions League...... come on you reds!
Many thanks to Roy for scoring the match for us.

Sparky beat the Bar Billiards Reaper 2-0 ::) Yes Well played last night Sparky, I really did struggle on the top last night. I had a knock against dad afterwards and couldn't get the break opposite hand either.

Thanks Kev Just one of those when I found the break and you didn't but had wondered myself whether a reverse (left hand) break would work, so now I know :D

Lost 2 - 0 to John Staplehurst at the Windmill last night. Very low scores from both sides. I lost first on the last ball & the second by just 200 it would have been nice to push it to the decider but hey. John just kept plugging away. Well done.
congarts Sparky.

Andy F/Wright 2 tommo 0 tonight at the Hurstpierpoint. Both games won by same margin, 4.5k-2.5k, Andy coping with the right-hand roll of the club table far better than tommo. Good luck to Andy in the next round.

A close match was held at the Brewers tonight between Peter Edwards and Colin Mansfield..... Pete won the toss and asked Colin to break first...
Game 1 Colin started off with a break of just over 1k and maintained that lead for most of the game, although Pete nearly snatched victory right at the end ending just 10 points short after putting the last ball down the 200 hole...... Colin 2570 Pete 2560
Game 2 Pete also started with a break of just over 1k and was always in control of this game, although Colin had a few chances to get back into it which he didn't take...... Pete 2780 Colin 1230
Game 3 Even breaks, Pete won the toss and went first.... however only scored 500. Colin only managed 330 in reply, but Pete failed to capitalise. Colin managed to build up a useful 1000 lead over the next few turns. Pete managed to get the break back and was going well at just under 2k when he left the ball behind the 10 hole and missed to lose the break. Pete kept battling and got into the lead with the bar down, clearing every ball but the red with Pete 380 in the lead. Colin had 3 attempts to pot it to win the game before Pete (very gratefully!) managed to finish in the 100 hole....! Pete 2360 Colin 1780
A good close game, played on a tricky top...... Well done Pete ;D and bad luck Colin! :(

The old fella beat Kim Stenning on The Special One's table last night, oh that testing and frustrating top. Low scores all round, the break beat us both and the table really must go through to the next round.

Results from a couple of matches played at the Greyhound tonight:-
BB Warrior 2 Dave Swinbank 0 ;D
Dave S * 4890 - 6180 BB Warrior Dave won the toss and elected to break, starting with a useful 1600. I got the balls back and made a solid 5.5k+ break, only for Dave to hit back with a 3k+ break. The balls were mainly at the back of the table for the final couple of minutes as I edged the first game. ;)
BB Warrior * 7050 - 2480 Dave S I started with a solid 2k, then added a further 1.5k on next visit. Dave got the balls back and made just under 2k before running out of position leaving me time to make a further 3.5k to win the game. ;D
Andy Farmer-Wright 2 Norman Cragg 1
Andy * 5120 - 3240 Norman A couple of solid breaks from Andy kept his nose in front with Norman not quite converting the chances that came his way.
Norman * 2790 - 840 Andy Norman struggled to get the break..... and Andy just struggled!
Andy 5680 - 3090 Norman Andy off on his opening break at 500, Norman scored a useful 2.5k on his. Andy got the balls back and rolled in an excellent 4k with Norman unable to get the break back.
A thoroughly enjoyable evening with the table playing well.
Many thanks to Hassan and the Greyhound staff, who were as always wonderful hosts (even supplying enough food for a couple of teams of players, never mind a couple of singles matches!) and also to Colin Mansfield and Adam Bateup for scoring my match. ;) ;D

Ted Stringer beat Peter Burchell at the Windmill
Well played Ted you coped very well with the conditions.
I scored this match and am debating whether to play my mixed doubles at all as work is more fun than playing on a top like this!

Trevor, I couldn't agree more about the Windmill top.......!!!
However, if Pete & Jenny haven't been in touch with you yet, then you could always insist on playing the match at the Greyhound....... alternatively, if you all agree, I understand that you could choose to play the match at another neutral venue but you would need to notify Lorraine first.
Food for thought for you Trevor......... ;)

..................or - could he not by choice forgo the right of a neutral venue and offer to play on the opponents' top ?
Any of the above options seem better than the rather drastic action of giving the game away.

Any of the above options seem better than the rather drastic action of giving the game away. Not as far as I understand it, but if you are the first named player(s), you do have the option of not making contact and hoping (expecting) that your opponent(s) will claim a home table match. It has not been unknown for a player to meet a singles/doubles opponent at a league match and say "we are playing each other in xxxxxx singles at yyyyyy top, but I'm not officially making contact at this stage of course" ;) However, Lorraine is usually amenable to representations, if made by both sides, if a neutral table has been playing very badly.
