..a Competition Secretary.
There are a few of you on here who will relate to the following. ;D

5am Print posters etc. for Hall
5.30am More chicken legs
6am Print out quiz for non-players tonight
6.15am Finish polishing perpetual trophies
6.30am More bleedin’ chicken legs
6.35am Coffee, nicotine and cornflakes
7am Sort out extension leads, brush and all the other bits and pieces
7.30am Guess what? (but with a nice smoked paprika and chillie rub this time..)
8am Decide on candidates for Comp Secs Merit award
9am Shopping for Raffle prizes
10am Pick up trophies from Witney
11am Last batch of soddin’ chicken legs
11.30am Get all the trophies out of the boxes and check them
11.45am Put all the trophies back in the boxes....
12 noon Eat 3 chicken legs (for lunch) to check they are not going to poison anyone
1pm Meet Dave Alder at Finals Night venue to receive BB tables
1.15 pm Wait for all the volunteers, to arrive..
1.30 pm Still waiting...
1.35 pm Four of us assemble and set up the tables, lay out the trophies, tables and chairs, PA system, put up posters
4.45 pm Go home and have a cup of tea, feet up for ten minutes watching half of yesterday’s Corrie.
5.00 pm Shower, change ready for tonight... (discover trousers have DEFINITELY shrunk quite badly) ;)
5.30 pm Microwaved Steak and Ale casserole...thank you Mr Waitrose.
6.15 pm Taxi back to hall and get ready to receive players, put out programmes etc.
7.00 pm Try to get first games going on time
7.10 pm Actually get games going..it’s like trying to herd cats! Usual Finals Night stuff ensues, finding chalkers, buttering bread rolls, having to play the odd game, making sure all the scores and breaks are recorded, listening to people moaning about the price of the beer. Drinking about a quarter of my beer before I lose it... Telling people off for using their mobiles to find quiz answers. :-/
10 pm A deathly hush descends as the food is served and everyone under 60 (bless ‘em) leaps into action to help Simon and Lewis load the tables back in the BB van
10.30 pm Presentation time. Roy on microphone, Jenny on Trophies, Freddie presenting them, me on camera. Look this way, smile, “yes I know it’s small but hold it out in front of and it will look bigger” Award player of the year salver.
11.15pm Scott and Jenny do raffle, win nowt! I mark quiz creatively making allowances for Googlers ::) and give a prize of bottle of fizz to someone I didn’t know? ???
12 midnight Start tidying up, saying goodbye to people and suddenly the dreaded words ring across the Hall “back to your place for 'coffee', Tone?”....
3am After making countless cups of tea and coffee for seven of us and three bottles of Rioja later I watch the other half of Corrie and crawl into bed at 3.15am after nearly 23 hours.
Another Finals Night over and looking forward a bit of a break...now where are those Summer League entries?
And it was Friday 13th...
cheers
Tony
