Using T-Cut turned your table into an 18k table. I have no idea what using T-Cut means , but it must involve inviting Sir KT round for a game or increasing the clock to 40 minutes. Shaun

Heaven help you Big Nige if Sir Jock or Mr Reaper catch you doing that to the table there...... you might have difficulty extracting the broom from where it would be positioned! :o :'( ;D ;D ;D

Shaun This really belongs on "Week 15 Banter", but yes, SirKT did come round for a game on 19/08/2007 and played it out with a break of 17,750 (16 minute bar). But his progress was hampered by having to wait for a particular white ball each time (there is a lighter one in the set) in order to make the break drop easier. Months later I addressed the problem of gunge round the pockets, and as it had the texture of tar, I thought I'd see what a drop of T-cut (used for removing marks on cars) would do by way of an experiment. The result? Pockets clean as a new pin and suddenly the break was on using any ball. The stuff contains petroleum distillates, so fulfils Sav's "has to be able to evaporate" criterion.

Have cleaned pockets and balls. Got the table the straightest it has been for years, then something awful happens. Can not even talk about it. See you on Wednesday Tommo, if I bother to turn up. Thesadone

Oi, SpecialOne, no !
Whilst I'm intrigued, I have to point out that Johnny G started this as a serious thread, and we have now entered the realms of either a quiz with points, or 'Week 15 Banter'
Unless you're referring to Man U's superb victory on Sunday............. ;D

and a bloody good victory it was too. 3-0 8-) :)
Getting back to topic...
How can you fix a problem if the cushion is knackered?
Some cushions can throw the ball further up then the other side making it a bit awkward with shots. Just wondered how you could fix this.
Also I agree with specialone on judging a tables performance. I usually have criteria such as Lighting, accessability (also for lefties like me) ;D, level playing top, whippeness, cushions, time on the game (usually 16/18 minutes), Condition of the D which I might add is quite a huge thing (imo), cleanliness of balls, good condition cloth.
After taking that into consideration I give it a score out of 10. ;D

At first glance the fish table would probably get about 2/10. The cloth looks rubbish and it looks old. Then you play on it - different story all together!

Tommo You have a PM H Do not give marks, or comment on a table, other than give advice to my team mates. If asked for my opinion I will give it, but preferred not to be asked. The evening at the Fish (taken in its entirety) gets top marks with me, although Girliefosters was a bit nervous, and I was reminded of the film 'Deliverence' See you at St Mary's Shaun

How can you fix a problem if the cushion is knackered? This usually means the rubber has hardened over the years and has has no bounce. The Handcross's back cushion is a good example, it would be a far more high-scoring table if you could get 'em back a bit easier. But I don't want to complain, in case what happened to Shaun happens to me too (reference to his PM - a tragedy of epic proportions).

I must agree that there are plenty of people that really make no effort with either setting up a table or even bothering to clean it before a game. Most tables I play on have really dirty pockets and get the occasional clean. I find this really really annoying. Its so frustrating when you dont get rewarded for a perfectly decent shot, that would go down no trouble if they were clean. I always clean our home tables pockets with meths and then stick a little linseed in. This usually seems to work quite well. Only my home table and one other even get ironed weekly in my league. Even with ironing they aren't particularly quick either. Quicker than the other tables obviously.
The best table I've ever had the pleasure of playing was in Brighton back in about 2003. Unfortunately that was the only time i've played outside of Hastings. This was at The Albion. I believe they had 2 tables, both Tarrat and the one we played on was meant to be the slow one. To me it was like playing on glass compared to anything I have ever played. Was also dead straight. Defo the best I've played on personally.

Only 1 table at the Albion these days.... but it's still a good one and I had the (dubious) pleasure of watching my opponent score 13k plus against me there in a recent Interleague match....!! ::) ;D
I did have one chance, about half-way through and the table is pretty level and a nice pace to play on, but I missed a split and then had enough time to have a chat and finish my drink. ;D ;D
The quickest table I have played on was in the Guernsey Open last year, you only had to touch the balls and they were gone, very true and with pockets that just swallowed the ball it was heaven to play on and I thoroughly enjoyed my first back-to-back 10k plus tournament scores. 8-)

I managed to make what was my highest competitive break at the time on it. That was only 9k. Now have scored quite a few breaks higher than that. But I did get to see Terry Race score a 15k break only to mis-judge a split and ring it round the 100 through that dredded white peg. How many times have i done that?? LOL :-/
