Lewes won division 2 of the Sussex Interleague by 1 point due to a tied game earlier. We were 2 nil up and at the end of a scrappy game Dave Knight was 100 behind with 1 white ball remaining, after looking at the captain (who said play what you like) .Dave knocked in the 100 to tie and the game ended 3.5 all. That half turned out to be a very important whole point, but how many would have gone for the 200. Yes I would have gone for the 200 and could have been a hero or a zero. ;D

It all depends on when the game was played. If it was the last game of the season and you knew that the result would be in your favour then you would go for the draw. If it was half way through the league campaign then you may decide to go for the win, winner takes all!

If you go for the draw and it wins you the league its the right thing to do and if it loses you the league its the wrong thing to do.
So what you really need is someone who can look into the future and tell you whats going to happen!
I think unless its the last game of the season when you probably know what result you need then it should be left up to the player what they go for.

Depends on the match situation and the teams position in that league.
In general though I would go for the 200. Edge Butler left me scratching my head when he went for a draw against Chris Reeves in the Worthing League (getting the 100 hole to do it with the last ball) with their team not fighting for any trophies and he had faught back from 2k down near the end. I thought what was the point of fighting back to have a chance of winning on the last ball to only then go for a draw.
I would have gone for the 200 in Dave's situation, at 2-0 up, a 3-0 lead would have been almost unassailable, and 2-1 would not have been a disaster. But as you say Kev, the point proved vital, but you never know these things at the time.

Wise words so far, and it's really difficult sometimes having to make a snap decision in the heat of the moment.
In my own personal experience "greed doesn't pay" so in normal circumstances I'd be inclined to go for the 100 and gratefully accept a half-point.
However, the match situation can sometimes have a bearing, especially if the system is 2pts a won match. So if we were 2-1 up, I'd go for the hundred as then we couldn't lose the match. And even if 1-2 down, I'd go for the hundred as if I went 200 and had the black it would be match over.
What about 2-all, though ? That's when 'bottle' comes into it, as winner takes all. Rather than play a lily-livered shot at the 100 which might hand the match to the opponent, it's sometimes best to take the bull by the horns and go for the 200.
It's certainly a difficult one to answer !

Very difficult one, and totally up to the individual on the table. I personally would always go for the win as I would in someway think it is best to be hung going for it rather than just accepting second best.

It's not greed, but it would have made sense to go for gold, unless some of the circumstances already mentioned prevail at the time.

if i was confident enough to know where it was (ie my home table) then yes, otherwise, no - go for 100. unless you practise and got a feel for it beforehand ?

This came up in my first team ko final! My opponent was 100 behind on the last ball (first frame!) - jammy git got the 200 though ;D At home i would have no hesitation in going for the 200 because i know where it is, away i would have to think about it! Depends how much i wanted a drink off my opponent ;) ;D ;D ;D

This has happened to me twice both times my opponent has ellected to go for the 100 and the draw.
half a point in the league rankings and 1 point in the individual rankings could explain the decision!!
Half of something is worth so much more than half of nothing!
ME.....I probably would have gone 200! when it comes off it feels so good!!! ;) sorry OBI1 and HRP I wouldn't really!! ::)
