Today, I managed a personal milestone with a 20k break off the spot in the Brighton Off the Spot competition at the Stadium - not bad considering the clock was 17mins. I had a bit of a moment on 19,950, rimming the split round the 100 as the bar dropped, but played a good 20-30 shot and cleared the final balls to do it.
Steve Mariner tells me that I am only the 2nd player to have ever acheived the feat in Sussex (the other one being him) and that entitles me to one of his nice blue T-shirts.
Unfortunately we do not currently have a national off the spot competition as it was changed to the what is now the Alternative Rules, but I know there were some very impressive breaks made in that competition before it changed. We don't have a county off the spot comp in Sussex so the only time I get to competitvely play off the spot is in the annual Brighton event. I know Jersey is obviously off the spot but it is very different to playing on our tables.
Firstly I would be interested to know who nationwide as ever made a competitive 20k break off the spot - I am sure there are a few. Secondly I would like to propose that we get a national off the spot competition back on the calendar - not that I want it to replace the Alternative Rules. Playing off the spot is a very skillful game and requires a few different shots, and I think would be a great readdition to national circuit. Where and when the competition could be held is obviously another issue that would need to be thought about. What do others think?

A glutton for work Nigel, as you are going to have to run it!!
If you want a tournament, submit a seconded proposal to DB before the end of the month.
