Hurst B 2 Greyhound 3
On a top which would be ok if it stopped at the hundred hole but totally unpredictable beyond that, we just scraped a win in a very close contest.
I dont have the scores but
Steve King beat Peter Burchell Geoff Fairs beat Chris Kirkham Darrel Skinner beat Neil Burchell I beat John Lear All the above against the break
The decider was a tight game with Paul Goodwin against Paul Jobbins with Ian allowed away on holiday!
Our Paul set off with a 2800 break which was very good on this top , and held the the lead all through the last game to clinch the match for us.
No fingernails left but we have made the final.
Many thanks to the Watermill for the great food and hospitality and to the pleasant company of the various members of their two teams present .

St Francis lost 3-2 to the Plough. If you are out there Jock o' the strap or Sparky could you please appologise to the landlord for me. The hospitality was first class and we repaid it by leaving without paying for the food. Will correct the situation A.S.A.P. Both teams fielded weakened sides, but it was a cracking game played in the right spirit. Peter Geal played on crutches and won, my thanks to him.
Have so far refused to get involved in the debate over how good or abysmal tables in Mid-Sussex are, however could not resist making a statement about yours tonight. Sorry Thespecialone.

Team Plate (match played tonight at the Greyhound.
Johnny Haigh 3380, Mike White 5230
A long way from home for the Cornish resident, but he was good value for the long journey.
MrMike007 9970, Anne Stockinger 580
No quarter from 007 on a table that he obviously likes.
Graham Daniels 3000, Lynne Storr 2680
Graham nearly dealt the shock of his life as Lynn drew level just as the bar dropped. But he was able to put away the last few to give the Zeds the advantage.
tommo 4670, Steve Smith 5740
tommo played like a muppet, fluffing the one-up a total of four times. This is not to take anything away from Steve who played a superb game full of good shots to level the match.
John Turner 5180, Jenny Arnold 630
John opened with 900 and looked a bit worried when Jenny doubled a red ball into the 200 hole and increased the break to 600 - but then lost them. John was then able to play with increased confidence and secure the win.
Handcross Z 3, Windmill 2.
Our thanks to the Greyhound which really is a cracking venue. No prior arrangement had been made with the landlord for food, but he provided it anyway. And refused to accept any payment for it other than a charity box donation.

Brewers Bravos 1 Hurst Club 4
A good evening with plenty of friendly banter between the teams.
Adam Bateup 2830 - B/P Papa "Birthday Boy" Hall :'( Richard Spurrier B/P - 1950 Rob Hall :) Paul Moyes-Robb 1330 - 8040 BB Warrior ;D Nikki Hinkins 1020 - 3300 BB Reaper :) Lynn Moyes-Robb 1390 - 2340 Andy "Supersub" Hall :)
Adam spoilt the birthday boys party with a good win as Pete left it too late to find the break while the game between Rob and Richard went to the last ball, Richard being unlucky in knocking the black peg down needing the 200 hole to draw the game! :o
Paul & I both found it easy to get the balls back, luckily for me I found the break while he didn't....!! ;)
Kevin always managed to stay in front of Nikki and Andy played well to beat Lynn after receiving a last minute call to replace The Old Fella who was unable to make it.
An excellent spread of food was provided (by request), however it would seem that charity begins at home at the White Horse as they charged £15.00 for EACH TEAM - Yes, £30.00 TOTAL for a large plate of sandwiches and chips....!! Wow, no wonder Ditchling is such a rich area! >:( :o ???

Well I take your point and like you would have taken a rather more blase approach. Suffice it to say that MrMike has struggled considerably this year, mainly down to the ineptitude of his captain giving him a bum deal with the draw each week: against the break and usually against the best player. All he did was make the most of a rare opportunity, and Anne didn't mind too much as we all encouraged her considerably when it was her go. 8-)

Now you're going to shock me and tell me it was not so....................

Hi Tommo Was not having a pop at Mrmike for beating up Anne, although I can now see how you thought that. It was a case of 'Oh no I've said too much, I havn't said enough' The comment I made was a purely selfish one about ME ME ME.
A CONFESSION Last night I was a bully. I was sitting here with a big grin on my face thinking how clever I was having taken highest break and highest score with one Harveys fuelled visit to the table. A table that can attract worse manking than my own, which gives it a special place in my heart. When I saw your post I realised my 'dreams were china in your hands', and they now lay shattered on the floor under the keyboard. Was so upset I went to bed without watching the ten minute free view on 'Climax' T.V. Have perked up a bit this morning and realise 'as long as I know how to love I know I'll stay alive'. 1 point each for the artist and 1 for the title, 6 points available plus 4 point speed bonus. Shaun.

Hi Shaun, Sorry I misread your motives, now I realise that you had a fine break at the Brewers of all places which was a contender for a trophy award. It is nice to hear that this sort of thing is still meaningful, whereas in the past I have met players who claimed to have got fed up with their awards and 'dumped them in a skip'. Even margo refers to ours as 'dust-collectors' ::)
I do enjoy your posts with their cryptic references and am currently trying to work out the meaning of the word 'manking'. I would imagine it means something like 'taking vehement and unfair criticism' as with Manchester United who let's face it play attractive football and any criticisms are fuelled by jealousy.
Regarding the 10 minute Freeview, try setting your video on timer to record it. My work colleague does that and has managed to fill a whole tape up with more or less the same thing repeated.
Finally, the quote is from Gloria Gaynor's all time classic I Will Survive. ;D

Nice one, specialone. As an obvious quizroom lurker, maybe we'll now see you taking part on the odd occasion ? I'm about to score the outstanding music ones (tonight) and will put another one up tomorrow. I will introduce your little quiz of just now into the markings.
We haven't had a good picture quiz for ages, so that is to come, and about a year ago we had some on the subject of beer, which were mainly answered by Sav. ;D
