I was commissioned to make new lights at the AGM and thought I would post an update. The old lights, I must say, looked a lot better when I saw them at Redhill!!. Above is the prototype on Sav's pride and joy. Shades have been purchased from Nigel Ryall, thanks goes to Chrissy Newson for getting them over the 'Oggin free of charge. Design decided amd all parts have been purchased. The lights stand off the back of the table which is a little cumbersome, but allows the top to be lifted if a ball gets stuck. The major problem I have encountered is weakness in the crown of the shade and holes aleady drilled off centre where the bayonet holder goes through is what's held me up. I've bought some circular conduit terminal box lids and am going to cut out the centre on a lathe and try and use them inside and outside of the crown of the shade to reinforce it. Otherwise I fear the fibreglass will disintegrate. Anyone got any better ideas?? Sav

Prototype looks good chris 8-) 8-) The only other way to repair the shade is to use a square piece of ali inside the shade, otherwise your idea should work well 8-) :)
As always you have come to my rescue again ;) Doing another great job for the sake of Bar Billiards :) and for the AEBBA ;) Many thanks Chris 8-) (I'll give you £500 for the table) ;D ;D ;D

Lights are finally completed and will be handed over to AEBBA on Friday. It's been one delay after another culminating with me falling off a ladder! still limping after two weeks but nothing broken fortunately.!!
Glad to see the back of them as it turned out to be more difficult than expected.
Shades are not all the same in appearance and would benefit from a common theme and are just waiting for sponsors' logos!!

I have taken receipt of the new table lights after meeting up with SAV at the Salfords Club in Surrey.
Sav has done a terrific job on these lights and I wish to thank him for his hard work and craftsmanship.
I have given the shades to my eldest son Steven to prep and paint a base color of white. I am also in the process of having the logo made for sticking on the shades. Should look great once they are finished.

Just put up our tables for Finals Night and have one of Chris's sparkling new lights on table four. Smashing job Chris - very strong and good light distribution. Well done!

Cheers and thanks Tony,
Feedback, good or bad, is always welcome.
There's a couple of points on them that I am not absolutely certain will survive poor handling, but a lot of thought and trial went into the design. I had an agreed budget to work to so the pot was not bottomless.
They should look brilliant and much more professional than the current ones when Dave has got the decals on them.
I'm not sure whether AEBBA are going to risk them on the circuit or just use them for AEBBA competitions.
Sav.

Does that mean that today's Oxford finals will have one or two of the new shades ?
How many were made ? 8-)
How much did you charge AEBBA ? :P
Have you been paid ? ::)
Should I mind my own business ? :-X

How many were made ? 8-) Ten
How much did you charge AEBBA ? :P Cost of shades, materials and transport was £540, no cost for my time, I asked for and received £500
Have you been paid ? ::) Eventually after several requests
Should I mind my own business ? :-X No, AEBBA are accountable to their members.

Still working on the shades. only get to work on them every now and then. Hoping to have them ready for the Kent Classic in July. Paul S gave me the decals today.
I have so far removed all remnants of the previous decals and have prepared 8 for painting. The two unprepaired shade have been used at Wallingford Finals night-Witney Finals night and Reading Finals. The feedback has been very good. Well Done Chris for yet another great job.

And a first outing for the new table lampshades resplendent with the AEBBA logo. Excellent job there by Sav (mechanics) and anyone else involved with the painting, de-cals, etc. A really nice paint job by Sam. I believe you took some photos of the finished product, Dave ?
