Zeds 5, Plough 0.
This was the night that the hitherto bruised and battered Handcross boys rediscovered how to play the game.
John Turner 3890, Daniel Webber 2000 Alan Downs 4560, Keith Potter 2290 Graham Daniels 8070, Des Gasson 2830 tommo 5510, Geoff Parsons 1870 MrMike007 6130, Mark Webber 2290
The Plough players actually put in a gutsy performance, none of these games were one-way traffic. Young Mr Webber in particular played some good shots and should be a good prospect for the future.

Greyhound 3 Watermill A 2
Geoff Fairs 1110 Norman Cragg 6470 Neil Burchell 2360 Chris Nikolaj 2340 Peter Burchell 2400 John Staplehurst 2980 Paul Goodwin 4980 Kim Stenning 2390 Treevor Rees 11140 John Willis 550
A close match Norm went off with only 650 in the first game with Geoff coming back with 3000 plus and looking like staying on then pegging it. Norm came back with 4000 and finally won the game with an excellent 6470. Paul played next with a steady game against Kim who for some reason could not hit the break on our table. Two tight games followed with both the Burchells struggling, Neil managed to scrape a win on the 200 hole. I had one of those nights when even if you miss a shot a ball drops in somewhere while John had no luck at all.
Good company an an enjoyable evening.

That's a good win for the Zeds Tommo, takes you right back into contention for both thr League and Individual player of the year.
Rumour has it that the Droops beat CKRBL 4-1 tonite with Andy F-W also winning, which would move him into 3rd place above Pete Edwards & Ted Stringer (CKRBL) and Geoff Parsons who all lost tonight as well as above me when our game was called off. :(
No doubt we will all need our sunglasses on tomorrow to fully appreciate the Jocksters smile festival....!! ;) ;D ::)

Sorry to be late with the scores.
Watermill B 4 Sportsman 1
A match which I wanted to stop after the first game, but my team persuaded me otherwise, in the interests of being sociable. Just about everyone lost about three times what they kept. >:(
Front of the table - really sweet, back of the table almost unplayable. Uphill, with a severe right hand roll, anything up to 3 inches adrift on some shots. ???
Paul Blackburn 1320 Rob Driver 1250 (Last ball won it) Gavin Boyd 1720 Sir Trevor 960 Tony Williams 1880 Tony Driver 310 Sabina Williams 1300 Pam Peacock 1200 (Again decided on the last ball) Martin Range 790 Ros 1140
I lost a 3200 break because I missed a ball completely between the 10 and 20 (my first shot over on the right hand side) in spite of aiming to hit it almost straight and using a fair amount of pace to try to overcome the roll. :'(
Well done to the Watermill B's on coping better than we did, even though their frustration at losing score after score often showed.
Very sociable hosts and a wonderful big tray full of garlic bread, roasties, sausages and chicken helped to cheer us up a bit!

It saddens me to read that Ros, and having played there only last Monday I can vouch for exactly what you say - alarming right-hand roll, scores lost (JT playing superbly well and going through the black through no fault of his own) and a regret that I hadn't insisted on rolling a few balls up the table before we started the match. A scorecard with not a single score of over 2000 by players of known skill suggests that this is a game other than bar billiards. >:(

Have no fear big bald beautiful bb warrior i shall run a few balls up the table before the match starts. then we can decide if we will play or not. All very well approaching the event in a cavalier fashion, Reaper, but I would urge a degree of caution. I agree with your action of rolling the balls up first - but what then ? If you all then storm off home immediately, bad blood is caused for the future. The venue will have provided food, etc. Best to say, "it's rolling right a full ball, do you want me to try and correct it for you?" If they then refuse, on their heads be it. Better still, do what I did once in the Billingshurst League (about 30 yrs ago !) when I phoned the venue in advance, and warned them that I had heard the table was unplayable and that my team would be turning up - but might not be playing the match if it was too bad. When the time came, the table had obviously received attention because it played perfect on the night ! First match of this season we played the St Francis (SpecialOne was on holiday). The table had to be dragged out of a corner and their stand-in captain tried some balls of and it was deviating sharply to the left. I offered help to level it and my offer was accepted. It only took a couple of minutes to do it and it played reasonably well that evening. Short of there being a cracked slate, any table can be made reasonably level, and there's no excuse for having it set otherwise. On second thoughts, maybe the Warrior's right and a good use might be found for that scythe after all. ;D ;D

I believe that our League Secretary has a good contact at Tarrats, maybe she could have a word there and see if they can get someone out to look at the table in advance? From what I heard, the table there was playing well after Tarrats came out to it earlier in the season, so I guess that either it gets moved around a lot or, with 2 teams playing there now, it gets adjusted by too many different people....??

Tommo, i wouldnt have stormed off home, but would have suggested leveling the table to some sort of playing standard.
I shall phone a few of the commitee members and and Mr Cragg to see if He or they are able to do anything prior to us going over .

When we played there last week in the cup the front end was pretty good but the top end was unpredictable but with more of a roll to the left than right causing one of our players to black peg.
I believe there may be a problem with the top.
I did talk about it to Norman this week and he reckons the top end rolls out both sides.
As both teams are valued members of the league and the hospitality and food is excellent (and free last week to two foreign teams), I would urge caution if any action needs to be taken.
I am sure both teams would prefer a reasonable table to play on.

I don't think the B's ever adjust the table, although certainly it does get moved around. There is a little more to the story than I posted. The other team returned at the end of the evening. Alledgedly there is a "ridge" in the middle of the table at the back, which apparently explains why the balls run dramatically to the right on the right side and fractionally left on the far left side. It seems strange that this "ridge" didn't seem to be there at the beginning of the season? A much simpler explanation would be that the table is uphill, and more so on the left than the right. See you at interleague tomorrow Dave and Kev 8-)

When I was scoring the singles match between the Old Fella and Andy Hall a few weeks ago, Norman was also there & he mentioned the "ridge" then, apparently he had put a spirit level on there and it was so pronounced that it was rocking from side to side....!! :o
When we (Hurst Club) played there towards the end of last year, it was fairly soon after Tarrats had been in and the balls did roll slightly outwards on both 30 holes, so maybe there is a problem with the slate....... but it seems to be much worse now, either as a result of the table itself being moved or adjustments that have been made to it.
My thoughts are that Tarrats should be asked to come out and inspect the table...... if there is a ridge on the slate itself then surely they should fit a complete new top for the table as that is a problem that cannot be overcome........??

I have just spoke to Norman and he is off down the Watermill shortly and will be seeing if he can level the table. He also wasn't happy about the way the table played wednesday, so i trust he will be doing evrything he can to put it right. He has also said he is happy for me to roll a few balls up the table and correct it if we are not happy with it on the night.
