Brighton A were due to play Tunbridge Wells tonight , however Tunbridge Wells cancelled at 6.38pm, when Gareth and myself were half way there and three of my players were already at the pub.
Not great notice, 50 minutes before the game is about to start, I think it was due to the snow.
Oh well

Mid-Sussex A 5 Worthing C 2
Richard Jeffrey 9,510 - 2,430 Dave Jones Sir Jock off with just under 2k, Dave pegged his reply allowing Jock in to hit a nice 6.5k+ break and a few more at the end. 1-0 ;D
Derek Taylor 7,130 - 1,160 Adam Squires Adam off fairly early but first to get the break back only to put it down 4 times. Derek hit a solid 5k and then lost another 2.5k before finishing the game off. 2-0 ;)
Graham Sparksman 4,410 - 3,730 Gina Sherratt I didn't see much of this match as I was enjoying the (very) fresh air outside, but both players had the break a couple of times with Gina running out of balls at the end. 3-0 :)
Henry Brooks 11,250 - 1,620 Charlie Cooper Impressive 10.7k open and touch from H gave Charlie no chance. 4-0 ;D
Andy Farmer-Wright 700 - 5,580 Rick Cunningham Rick missed the split on 1.5k, Andy straight back on the break and was going well on 2.3k when he managed to join Adam in the "4 Times Club"! Rick only managed 500, but the balls then stayed at the back for a while until Rick got them back for another 3k to make sure. 4-1 :(
Pete Edwards 300 - 5,870 Tony Jenner TJ off at just over 2k, Pete was going well with a 4k+ break when he missed a ball behind the 30 hole. Tony got the break back for another 2k then back for some more at the end. 4-2 ::)
Dave Ingram 8,190 - 1,730 Edge Butler I started with about 6.5k and, although Edge got the break back a couple of times, neither of us did much after the opener..... 5-2 :-/
Very enjoyable evening, plenty of laughs and banter between the teams.... well done to all for braving the snow, hoper everybody had a safe journey home afterwards. ;D

Excellent chilli and curry at the Hurst Club, happy to come away with only 5-2 loss as it could easily have been 7-0, well done Mid Sussex totally outplayed us on the night.

Richard,
Sorry about the short notice - some of us had set out but the roads around here were a nightmare in places. A lot of us live out in villages as far away as Maidstone.
With worse weather forcast, we just didn't fancy getting stuck in Brighton.
Hope to see you soon.
Martin.

Redhill B V Mid sussex B Match was played up to the 5th game which we won 3- 2 2 of Redhill's players left early due to the snow & had difficult journeys. We agreed to play on.
Sheila King 70 Iang 2150 both players traded breaks I joined the 4 down club losing 1300. But then Sheila was unfortunate playing a split left a ball behind the 100 tried down the left hand side & took out the black peg.
Mark Fraser 6840 Adam Bateup 710 Adam pegged his opening break & Mark hit back straight away & got the break back a few more times.
Baz Symons 890 Paul Jobbins 6670 Paul played very well
P Nicholls 7500 BobHall 5710 best game of the night good breaks from both players bad luck bobhall
Ginette Nichols 1780 Ros Appleby 4170 Lady Ros made the most of having the break led all the way
***** Darrell Skinner
***** John Lear Thanks to everone for making an effort to get the match played & to The Old Oak for the nice food. Some of the hills around the Old Oak were interesting had a close shave with a parked car on the way out I sped up with the brakes on !!!

Could somebody confirm what happens in a situation like this? ??? Presumably, the last 2 games are awarded to Mid-Sussex B as their players were available and willing to play these games..... although that would possibly be a bit harsh on the home players who had to leave if they had difficult journeys...... ???

I have left it up to the secretary to decide but don't feel that we should replay as both captains agreed to play on.

Some of us expressed doubts about the wisdom of starting this match when weather conditions started to take a turn for the worst just before 7.30, but the opposing team (and to be fair, some of our players too) were very keen to go ahead. We started the match, two opposing team members left at the end of the third game. The opposing team still wanted to play on at that stage, so two further games were played. We were not even aware that the other team were short of players until sometime during game 4, we thought we had recognised another potential player at the bar. I wasn't thrilled at the prospect of the journey home, but by the time I'd stayed for three games I decided that another hour or so would not make much difference. It would be a travesty if this match had to be replayed. Many thanks to The Oak, not only for the great refreshments, but also for serving them early, so that we could all pick at the food while the games were being played and not have to take a break. 8-)
