Another close match fought out at the Marquis last night between Worthing `A` & `B`. When these two teams met in November, it went narrowly to the `A`s 4-3 with yours truly taking the decider against Dave France. Last night it went down to the wire again, but this time it was supersub Stu Mepham who had the honour.
Martin Smith 10,490 v Nick Brown 4,880 - Martin opened with a solid 10k to start the ball rolling. Nick replied with about 4k. 1 - 0
Neil Higgins 5,370 v Bill Kerr 7,540 - Bill kicked off with a slow 7k+, not leaving Neil enough time to catch him, but he finished the clock off with a good 5k. 1 - 1
KT 6,230 v Dave France 11,160 - I always knew i`d be up against Dave and sure enough, Nick put him next. Dave never looked like missing (may have had something to do with a good practice the night before :-X) and opened with 11k. I got them back and finished off the clock. 1 - 2
Barry Holt 10,650 v Phil Oakley 2,980 - Barry was off on about 2k, Phil replied with a similar score but thinned a split. Barry then made a steady 4k and then added another break to level the match. 2 - 2
Ian Lelliott 670 v Paul Barnett 9,300 - Barney looked like he could have come off several times in his methodical 7k opener against Ian. With 13 mins gone on the clock, Ian had no chance of catching his score. 2 - 3
Tony Lewis 5,360 v Gary Ridley 4,920 - Chances a begging in this one. After two breaks each, there was nothing between them but then Gary established a 2,700 lead. Tony got them back for a third time and chased him down for a narrow win. 3 - 3
Stu Mepham 8,340 v Brian Richards 1,810 - What is it with Stu and last game deciders ??? In the last 3 years I have played alongside Stu, he must have won at least 3 or 4 to win us a match and he did so again last night., but only on his third break. :-/ His first one-up came inside the fifty, Brian replied with about 1k. Stu`s second one-up came inside :-/ :-X, but a third attempt saw him compile about 5k, which was enough for the match. ;D 4 - 3
Plenty going on with it being Dougs 60th birthday as well, a few extra faces to share the curry & rice laid on by Danny.
So we stay unbeaten this season, looks like it`s heading for a showdown at the Romans in the last game ;)

I am going to have to award Eastbourne the match 7-0 against Redhill B. After many tries and dates they have not come up with a solution. Redhill B were the team to cancel.

I am going to have to award Eastbourne the match 7-0 against Redhill B. After many tries and dates they have not come up with a solution. Redhill B were the team to cancel. That result temporarily moves Eastbourne to the top of Division 3...... Pos Team Pld W D L F A Team Score Team Aver Player Aver Pts 1 Eastbourne 8 5 0 3 30 26 139,890 19,984 2,855 10 2 Billingshurst 7 4 0 3 27 22 144,470 20,639 2,948 8 3 Mid-Sussex B 7 4 0 3 26 23 188,200 26,886 3,841 8 4 Brighton C 7 4 0 3 26 23 164,230 23,461 3,352 8 5 Redhill B 7 1 0 6 17 32 122,380 20,397 2,914 2 Eastbourne awarded 7-0 walkover against Redhill B who cancelled. However, a win for Billingshurst (who play Redhill B) or Brighton C or Mid-Sussex B (who play each other) would move them above Eastbourne in the final series of matches tonight...... :o Good luck to you all..... 8-)

I am going to have to award Eastbourne the match 7-0 against Redhill B. After many tries and dates they have not come up with a solution. Redhill B were the team to cancel. That is what I have been predicting would happen for many weeks now. It could have given Eastbourne the title which in my opinion would have been wrong. I know that I moaned about this last year & got negative feedback from people but when you go to count back on legs won to give a team a full 7 points can't be the right thing to do where a team could be prompted by default ??? Redhill had no incentive to travel down to eastbourne to play the fixture.
