Hi Eastbourne BB fans
Looking at options for next year and beyond with the numbers likely to be falling to unsustainable levels soon, as mentioned previously, we are looking at the feasability of converting to a singles league.
The other reason for the change is to increase the interest for players still wishing to participate.
We are looking at two divisions of 10 players or more so that matches will be between players of similar skill levels, we will look at inviting other pubs and players to join in because with only 3 league venues currently available in eastbourne we wont get enough matches played on a tuesday night. So could pull in some lewes venues and other non league venues to make it work. Provided they are available on Tuesdays. Of course this could then expand to other areas and players in Sussex as appropriate.
Further discussion at next Eastbourne committee meeting, but please feel free to add comment
All sounds QI

Not my place to say so really as I don't play in your league but I think reverting to a singles league would probably discourage me from playing. My reason would be that one of the main reasons I play is for the social aspect and without the teams that goes.

Hi The Dawster, All comments are appreciated Mike Caught a bit between the devil and a hard place here, sooner or later we will be down to 3 teams, cant really see an alternative, other than a triples league, like the Hastings Summer league, i can see pros and cons for both, but we need to plan for something and ideally this year, so that the transition is quick and well thought out. Ozzie has been working hard behind the scenes as usual to come up with some viable options for us, but i was hoping that others have come across this situation before thus not forcing us to "reinvent the wheel" regs cs

Not sure how the Hastings league works, but the Eynsham league (Oxon) works on a 3 person team and you play your opponent twice so that everyone gets a break. If you have a limited number of players this is a very enjoyable system. Which ever way you plan to move forward I wish you all the best.

Minutes of meeting held at the star tonight Present Fred Pope,Roy Jenkins,Peter Payne,Heather Akehurst,Stewart Chant,Chris Turner,Chris Hagger,Terry Cox,Chris Haynes,Lee Sunshine,Sarah Quinn,Graham Austin, Gareth Dell,Mike Reilly, Tony Smith, Colin Southouse Apologies Phil Osbourne, Nigel Pead A general discussion took place on the 2 alternative proposals for the change of league format next season, which has been bought about by the continuing decline in the number of teams in the eastbourne league, down to 3 teams Proposal 1 Singles League Proposed by Phil Osbourne and seconded by Colin Southouse The League would be split into 3 divisions of 6 singles players initially based on the previous seasons averages ( or any multiple of 3 players to make it easy), Individuals would be drawn on a round robin basis to play all other same division members at each of the available venues and to play the agg score over 2 games at each venue with 1 break each. Points format was not discussed, Relegation and promotion will be required Pros Players would be playing opponents of similar standard, Each match would therefore be more interesting for both players 6 games a night at each venue No food to be organized Cons Transport may be an issue for some players, though it was suggested that if players were keen then they would find a way This format is quite inflexible in that postponed games would cause some programming issues New players could not be integrated easily into league mid season Substitute players could not be used Difficult to fit in with some Sussex comps ie Captains /Whatney mann Scorers for some matches would be a problem particularly in lower divisions Proposal 2 3 player league format Proposed by Chris Haynes seconded by the 7 Sisters team Teams could register any number of players but would draw 3 names to play singles in round1 and could draw 3 of any permutation of available players in round 2 otherwise existing league rules would apply Pros Transport not a problem 2 players teams would still work but would concede 2 games 6 games per night New players could be fitted in as available Alternate players could be utilized during holiday times Scorer availability less of an issue Might make 2 but probably 1 extra team Cons Basically a smaller version of what we do now Still difficult to fit in with some Sussex comps Following the discussion, all those present and proxy votes were counted Proposal 1 received 7 votes Proposal 2 received 10 votes abstained 2 votes We can now make the proposal at the AGM to ratify the format change, by which time i will have had discussions with SCABBA to ensure that such changes in Eastbourne won't adversely affect our members opportunities regards Colin Southouse
