OK for a bit of fun? Announcements will be made about Bournemouth on Sunday at the AGM, but a 'taster' Me being a real ale man, proper beer is a part of my weekend. Unless things alter the house ale at Bournemouth will be one of my favourites Doombar, from Sharpes, just down the road from Bernie ;D We may choose another guest real ale for the Friday night and as long as it lasts of the weekend. Lager and John Smith's drinkers (sorry Keith) please go and read something else at this point (or was it pint?) Thus I'm asking for nominations for your favourite quaffing ale, The sensible ones will be put in a poll and you can choose your poison (if available) for Bournemouth. Watch this space! Sav

;D Or a pint of Shepherd Neame 1698, which I am drinking right now and I'm going to follow it with another and then a Hobgoblin to finish the evening.
Dick.

Hobgoblin is available in draught too Chris - bit heavy for long sessions though! :-/
They always have a local beer like Ringwood Best on tap and very pleasant it is too, most of the time. Doombar seems to be universally liked by everyone though.

You can't go wrong with Doombar, and I agree a local best would be a nice touch.

Chris I hope they still have Tetley's on for us ale drinkers, or better still John Smiths! Their takings will be down on previous years if they don't! Keith :P

Well there's the obvious Hall and Woodhouse (makers of Badger Beer and based in Blandford) who bought out King & Barnes (ba$tards !) - but how about this one? dorsetpiddlebrewery.co.uk/There's also a brewery based in Ringwood: www.marstonsbeercompany.co.uk/brewing_history/ringwood.asp

I was talking true independent micros local to the Dorset area. Ringwood were bought out some time back and Hall & Woodhouse are not well liked "round these parts".
In Sussex we have a great variety and choice of micros such as Dark Star, 1648, Beachy Head etc etc. I just wondered what the Dorset equivalent was

Yeah sorry skimmed over that one Clive. Looks interesting, not one I have come across! Named after one of the three main rivers in Dorset. The Frome and Piddle are chalk streams but the Stour, which rises in Wiltshire to the north, has its origins in clay soil. So with chalk, the beer should not be too unlike what we have in the South Downs region of Sussex. 8-)

Surprisingly few recommendations so far!!
I would go for local Ringwood Old Thumper, but at 5.6% I would fall over fairly quickly.
Substitute might be Ringwood Old Scrumper @ 4% a seasonal beer in Feb, may still be available.
