Margo and Tommo were at a loose end tonight (our B'hurst Mixed Doubles having been called off) so, acting upon a tip from a reliable source, we investigated the Malt Shovel, Horsham. ;D
Yes, there's a brand new table (installed last Thursday) and yes they have a plan to join the league(s).
The table is a Supreme, rented from a specialist pub games hire company based in Oxfordshire ! But we had a game on it and it plays reasonably well and is a) the correct width for our 3-Pin, and b) has a slate bed.
Some slight hurdles to be overcome........
1. Has a smart 3-bowl overhead light, which still needs to be installed in situ by a competent electrician.
2. Has mushrooms rather than pegs, the landlady is putting an order in for pegs !
3. Absence of a D......I explained the necessity of the D to protect the cloth in that area - we see so many tables of this type on eBay with a hole in the cloth where a D should be, so I will drop one in for them on Thursday.
So, over to you guys to further the P.R. exercise......the table is already popular with some young student types and had a lot of play at the weekend.
We mentioned the arrangement that was struck with the other new venue The Plough TB and also mentioned the possibility of the Wednesday night Springbok Club team being up for a friendly.
The Silver Fox is known to be a pub regular and the landlady was able to mention him by name. So maybe Jim should be nominated as first point of contact - especially as he is a Horsham Committee member.
