Firstly a BIG well done to England on retaining the trophy this year! A very close game in the end, with it coming down to the last 3 games, so nobody can say bar Billiards isn't exciting! A great effort was put in by all.
Just really want to congratulate Simon and Lorin on their debut win for the England team. Both taking a 2-1 win and rightfully proving they deserved to be their and wear the shirt! You have done Northants proud, and we hope to see you both and more northants players knocking on the England door in the future!
This was originally in the Northants thread, hence the slight biased report, but all 11 players not only played their own legs but where supporting each other through every game so well done!!!

May I add my congratulations and heartfelt thanks. It was a privilege to play as part of the team and highly rewarding to be able to contribute points. There was a remarkable team spirit and every player gave enthusiastic support to each of his team mates. Thanks also are due to the team from Jersey for welcoming and hosting us so well, to the real leaders in our team Chris S, Paul S and of course Captain Kevin.
Finally a heartfelt thanks to those involved in the decision to invite me to play. It was an huge privilege and was a thoroughly enjoyable experience that I will not forget.

What a fantastic weekend, being picked for this match has been my biggest achievement in billiards. Everyone was made to feel they were all equal and fully deserved to be in the team. Very proud to wear the shirt and be part of the England win. Still full of the buzz ;D Just glad we kept off the drink ::).

Lorin I would agree entirely with Lorin here.... it was certainly a tremendous weekend and great to come home as part of the winning team and my thanks go to the Jersey Team and the venue who made us all feel very welcome. 8-) The match itself went down to the last 3 legs and at about the half-way stage of those games Jersey were looking as if they were going to make a big come back at the end to make it a grandstand finish.... but, as is often proved in this game, the situation can change very quickly and the last 3 England players managed to pick up 4 of the last 6 points that were available to seal the win. ;D I think that this now makes the scores between Jersey and England all square at 8-8 for the games played in Jersey and that it is also the largest winning margin by the England Team since the format was changed to the current system. 8-) My thanks go to all of my team mates over there for their excellent company over the whole weekend.... their fantastic support of all of the players during the games.... and the very enjoyable celebrations that went on (for a long time!) after the match had ended.... the Team spirit was superb throughout and it was a pleasure and a privilege to play in the team with you. Definitely a weekend that I will long remember. ;D

Two of our team at the Fox Inn Thrapston played in this match( Si and Lorin), that is quite something ;D To think that only a couple of years ago, we were pretty much done, as we had got to the point where we needed two players, and new players are not easy to come by.Thankfully we have survived, and this is the icing on the cake for me, and also Thrapston town ;D I know people in this 2 horse town that will love this, I've known Simon all his life, and when we got him into our then Pub team in Barton Seagrave, who would've thought that 20 years or so later, he would be involved in an England game, and Lorin is a class player quite capable of anything 8-), The two Jims, and Barry, would've loved thisI'm sure, I don't know how I'm going too follow this from now on. I must win tommorow night of course for a start. Well done the Fox, and England 8-)

As has been pointed out earlier, the two outstanding things from the weekend were the scale of the win and the brilliant team spirit that prevailed the entire weekend. It has certainly been the most enjoyable international for me personally, both in the mutual support during practice games, the camaraderie during the match and the social side. I looked around the room long after the Jersey team had left and almost the entire England team were still sat around the table.
Congratulations to all the team, whether you won or lost, that is irrelevant. It was the team that pulled through. I thought we were in deep doo-doo after the first series in the second half when the pendulum swung Jersey’s way with a big 7 – 2 series result to give them the lead, but the pendulum swung firmly back in the remaining three series.
Thanks to the Jersey guys for organising another brilliant evening. My personal thanks to BBW for his company and chauffeuring me.

Hi all im a bit confused with the scoring system, how come 3 points are at stake in each game of two legs as opposed to 2 points for two legs?

Well, now for my turn ;D
Well done to my fantastic team, what a result :o
To fill in more details - There were 3 tables used. A & B were very tricky indeed, quite pacey, making the split difficult, which makes the result even more pleasing, seeing as we were splitting for England in all our practice games ::) The best table (C), didn`t work in our favour really with two 3-0 defeats. Our three 3-0 wins and all but one of our 2-1`s came on the tricky tops and only Bob King from Jersey managed a win on them.
The team spirit and camaraderie throughout the weekend was superb, starting with the Chinese meal for 11, then the Doubles comp. down the Devonshire( which I believe Fitz & I won lol), right through to the end result late on saturday. I was proud to be involved with such a great bunch of guys.
The Hotel was superb, nothing like the Merton, but certainly all we needed for this weekend. The manageress and staff really looked after us and the breakfast (if you paid the extra £8) was fab, twice as much as you get at the airport for the same price.
We were worried at the turn of the year that the fixture might not even happen, but well done to the Jersey organisers for turning it round.
I did have some conversations with several Jersey players about the addition of Pairs to the evening in future. I got mostly positive answers, so it may happen yet. Watch this space ;)
As for the match against Guernsey at Home in June, I will need to speak to the selectors as to whether we stick to the original squad or play the team that travelled out to Jersey :-/ Personally, I have made my decision :)
Thanks again guys for a great weekend :P ;) ;D

I've moved all the premature wrangling on who should be picked for the next match away from the celebration on what we achieved in the 2013 Jersey international. That's what I want to read about here and remember one of the finest bar billiard weekends it has been my privilege to take part in.
The selection wrangling is to be found in the England team 2013 thread.

The Jersey view from the Jersey website, a more detailed version transposed here by the 'Toiler' ;D
Note, Harry Barbet also unluckily lost a 2k break at the death which would have virtually guaranteed his win, wow did Simon keep his cool to score the necessary 190 points with the final four balls to win by 10.

Especially as EVERYONE was wathching that game, all the England players cheered when it dropped, so Triplex took the 2-1, that would have been an awkward moment to say actually..... :)
