Early this year but I am pleased to announce the issue of entry forms for Bournemouth 2014. The early issue is to allow for anyone wishing to pay by instalments and avoid a big bill at Christmas.
Entries will be updated in the AEBBA members only area for obvious security reasons.
Forms are below in PDF for printing or editable for emailing.

Just a reminder that entries need to be in by the end of November this year, only six weeks away, to help both AEBBA and the hotel. Deposits are ONLY £25 per person this year with balance payable by end of January. Entries so far? zero! Residency conditional on playing will be discussed at the AGM. Why do entries have to be in so early? Most opens have a closing date of 1 month before? Maybe people are waiting for the outcome of the AGM before deciding if to enter? Most opens don't have a hotel who have reserved all accommodation for us this year but who would like to have sufficient time to be able to sell on unused rooms if we do not fill it. All part of the deals AEBBA have done to bring the cost of the weekend down for everyone. Deposits are only £25 this year not £60. As stated earlier deposits will be refunded for anyone who wishes to stay elsewhere and residency is not made compulsory for 2014. What more can I do?? Chris Saville, AEBBA Treasurer

Sending entry forms and money off today. Just to let you know it's for four double rooms and four single rooms.
Thanks, Dawn.

Residency conditional on playing will be discussed at the AGM. If non residency is allowed and you wish to stay elsewhere your deposit will be refunded.
So Chris, are you saying that if we wish to stay elsewhere we may not get our deposit back? I think you have arranged a great deal for half board but still think £40 per night for B&B is very steep. We like to have dinner elsewhere and can stay in the Britannia for £25 per night.
I think it's a bit much to ask for a deposit that may not be refundable. Surely the decision on "Residency being conditional on playing" should be made before the closing date for entry shouldn't it?

Total price: GBP 114.50 * rate change during the stayThis was for two sharing a room Chris That's £28.60 each per night if we book now then. It gets cheaper later when we get offers sent through to us. So, are you saying that we still may have to forfeit our deposit as a result of an AGM decision that could be made after the closing date for entry? That was my question.

So, are you saying that we still may have to forfeit our deposit as a result of an AGM decision that could be made after the closing date for entry? That was my question. Exactly where in the quote above, or ANYWHERE in everything I've published over Bomo 2014, does it say that deposits may not be refunded?Sav I think the words "If non-residency is allowed" implies that deposits may not be returned if the decision is made at the AEBBA AGM that non-residency is NOT allowed and the players then choose to withdraw from the competition as a result of that for whatever reason, that is certainly how I would read that. Personally, we are probably not going to be able to commit to playing in this competition until after the closing date.... there are a number of reasons for this including no dates agreed with my ex-wife to see my children next year and Colleen may be transferred to a new store by her company and therefore cannot book any holiday until that has been finalised.... so we are not in a position to be able to book anything until we know that we can attend although we would obviously both want to enter if we can. I appreciate all of the hard work that has been done by the organisers (Sav & Chrissie) to get us the good deal that they have for the hotel, which is cheaper than it has been in previous years, and understand that the hotel would want as much chance as possible to sell any unused rooms to other customers.... but I believe that a closing date of 3 months before the Tournament is too early, especially as most players only normally enter other competitions within the last month and in previous years I believe that the closing date for this competition has normally been the end of January? In addition to this, there is also the possibility that the "residency criteria" may change at the AEBBA AGM which is after the closing date and, as has already been mentioned on this thread, people are often able to get better deals at hotels with late bookings. I would always prefer to stay at the venue that the competition is being played at, so please could the organisers therefore advise what the situation is for the players (such as us) that are unable to commit to entering before the closing date? Does that mean that we are simply not allowed to enter, or will entry be allowed but the hotel price will then increase? If it is the latter of those, what will the cost then be? I am sure that we all want this competition to be a great success and it is certainly one of my favorite tournaments of the year, but I think we need to have some options here or there is a danger that there will not be enough entries to make it viable.... so any help that the organisers can give us would be appreciated?

Can the organisers answer a question please..
If the proposal goes through that you have to stay at the queens to enter the competition, does that mean you can only book through AEBBA or can you book through another source ? At the moment (as of 2mins ago) you can get rooms cheaper through booking.com than you can through the negotiated rate we are being offered.....

If you wish to book through an agency that discounts off the worst rooms that we will not offer then that's fine by me. Sav

Are you sure you are doing the comparison correctly Mark...? I am looking at booking.com now and the rates it is showing me are.... Twin / Double room for 2 nights (7th-9th March) - £153.00 Room Only and pay now..... or £200.00 for B&B, Free Cancellation and Pay Later The same room for 2 people on the AEBBA Deal (including breakfast) would cost £160.00.... so £40 cheaper than booking.com for the same thing.... unless I am misreading something?

Now, now.......no need to get upset!
It is a simple enough question. So I ask again but I'll try to make it clearer this time. If, at the AGM, a proposal is passed where you have to stay at the Queens to play in the Bournemouth Pairs "Non residency not allowed" would I get my deposit back if I decided not to stay there? A Yes or No is all I'm after. I don't see why this question is so difficult![/b]
The answer is Yes Alan. Deposit will be refunded

And we wonder why the game is in decline! Nothing in this world is perfect and wording of things often causes the most problems. I can see the confusion that the wording of some earlier posts has caused and I believe it would have been far easier to have simply left the 2014 tournament as not subject to residency and that the 2013 AGM could then simply have voted as to whether or not residency is a condition of entry to the 2015 tournament. That way everyone making a booking for the 2014 tournament would know exactly where they stand. I for one am becoming increasingly disillusioned with this forum and those aspects of the game that I am involved in. It seems to me that some people are simply intent on trying to point score over people and to undermine people where they can. I believe that it is the actions of those people and the constant back biting that is set to cause the greatest harm to the game we all apparently love and cherish. Everyone is an expert, everyone has an opinion and yet very few put their heads above the parapet and take on some of the responsibilities of the game. Those that do soon realise that it was a mistake as they are admonished for everything they do. I don't feel that some comments are required or indeed useful. I can completely understand why those that run the game at the moment will think carefully about whether they wish to continue to do so I for one hope that they do and I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and everyone who is involved in the running of the AEBBA and the affiliated leagues and competitions. Surely it is time that we stop squabbling and start pulling in the same direction, after all aren't we all trying to achieve the same end? Yours increasingly disillusioned Colin

Colin, I could not agree with you more about this.... That way everyone making a booking for the 2014 tournament would know exactly where they stand. .... that would seem to be a very simple solution to the problem, one that perhaps the organisers could consider? But I can't help but feel that the comments below were perhaps "inspired" by the single line post by one person above in this thread.... And we wonder why the game is in decline! I would agree that the individual who posted that previous comment deserved a rebuke like that entirely. %" text=" " /> However, having said that, we are still waiting for responses to the questions that have been raised.... Alan would simply like a confirmation that money will be refunded to players if residency is made compulsory and the players decide that they do not wish to enter the competition? And I am waiting for replies to two questions.... 1) Can the closing date for entries be put back until some time in January, as it normally has been for this competition? This question is to try to enable MORE players to enter the competition if they wish to do so, including myself as I will not personally be able to commit to entering until after the existing closing date. 2) What would the price be for staying at the Queens Hotel if I am able to enter after the existing closing date? Please note that this means that I am NOT expecting to get the same excellent deal that AEBBA have negotiated on our behalf, although obviously I would be if I did as I ALWAYS stay at the venue for any tournaments that last the whole weekend. I don't really consider any of those questions unreasonable and mine certainly aren't meant to either score points over or undermine anybody.... .... all I want is simple answers so I know whether I can play in the competition next year or not?

Come on Dave, give us all another paragraph on who you are on about in your pathetic post. Which pathetic post was that then Lewis..... I do so many of them on here that the staff even partly named this smiley after me!! I can only guess that perhaps you are referring to the one that you said you "liked"...?? Yes, you are quite correct, clearly trying to find a way to allow more players to enter a tournament is pathetic.... much better to offer constructive, positive posts like yours always are. Colin, I have to say you were right when you said this.... And we wonder why the game is in decline! I won't be responding to further posts about this as it simply isn't worthwhile.

Because its run by Aebba that's why its so difficult to get an answer Your absolutely correct Lewis. Bournemouth Pairs competition is run by the AEBBA. It takes an awful lot of effort, guidance, knowledge, time, and patience to organize a weekend of Bar Billiards for those interested in spending time out of their busy lives to unwind and have a really great time socializing with friends and the beer tap. Some of the AEBBA committee are there to continue to put on the event and to keep it organized and well presented by working behind the scenes were nobody seems to go and nobody wants to know. I would consider it a job well done if you can put together the whole weekend yourself and not have any repercussions from all your efforts. A challenge for you Lewis is to produce a FULL WORKING PLAN for Bournemouth 2015 that will satisfy every single player who wishes to go to Bournemouth for THAT weekend
