Further to my mid term update on the replacement of the tyres following a blow-out;
The truck appeared to me to be in a dangerous state when I drove it for the first time, I and the other executive officers of AEBBA are liable in the case of an incident occurring as the insurance would likely be void do to lack of maintenance and overloading. Fines for overloading are immense. I am not prepared to risk personal financial ruin by continuing as an AEBBA officer under these circumstances.
Thus the truck has to comply with the law, also for AEBBA to continue hiring tables.
Brian Dawkins has now had the truck for review and I have just heard from him.
Brian said the van was awful.
The parts needing replacing:
Pads AND DISCS! All round.
Front suspension main cross spring is shot.
Shock absorbers all round.
Starter motor.
Steering ball joints.
Power steering belt.
Plus full service pack.
He said it rolled without stopping just by pushing it!
The cost £800 in parts and very charitably £300 for a good three days work, £1100 all in.
I’ve talked to Phil and we have to go ahead with this work. Brian said that we should get another three years out of it following this work. The truck will be weighed with the Bucks hire on it to ascertain load maximum.
I must publically thank Brian Dawkins for undertaking this work at such a reasonable cost.
The good news is that a knight in shining armour, Paul Sainsbury, has come forward and has donated £1000 towards the combined costs of £1100 repairs and £500 tyres. I cannot thank Paul enough for this timely donation. Paul has quietly, and without credit, supported this association for very many years and all of us owe him a great debt in being a major factor in Counties being able to continue with their opens and finals nights next year.
What we now have to do ASAP is pay off our remaining table supporters and then start fund raising towards a scheduled replacement of the truck in three years time. The first opportunity to do this will be to invite sponsors for the tables for the forthcoming Reading competitions and Bournemouth 2014. Please let myself and Dave Alder know if you are interested. I can't promise you much apart from posters on the tables and recognition on here.
Please support the raffles at Reading as, without their contribution to the Truck replacement fund, you won't be playing there for long!
