Hello Oxon associations! :D as some of you may well know, on Wallingford finals night for the past few years weve held a match known as the Ray Sturgess challenge to take place between, theoretically a Wallingford side and an Oxford side. Those tasked with organising it on the day have done well with what was at their disposal but many of us, myself included think it should be more than that, that it become a proper recognised event in the Oxon calender, particularly as Ray (who unfortunately i never got the chance of meeting) did so much for this area and of course for bar billiards as a whole.
Having spoken to my own committee, i and many others think it would be a good idea to make this an official event amongst the Oxon associations. I trust everyone would agree with me on this that it would be worth making it more than what it is, as more of a testimonial to what Ray did if anything.
What i would like to do in the mean time is have each association come together to make this happen. Ive elected to take on the responsibility, as chairman, to represent Wallingford in the possible organisation of this event, what id like is for a representative of each association to join myself in sorting something out.
Of course the cup itself was put up by Dave Barnes so he should get a good say as to whst goes on!
At the last Wallingford committee meeting we had a discussion about a possible format and thoyght we should make it like a one day event similar to the inter area event where each association sends a team (or two) to compete against the others, a day after finals night, for example of course :)
Anyone from each association who would be willing to organise something with myself and the other Wallingford committee members, i would be really grateful if you were to PM your contact details to me and we can sort a meeting out or somethong or other.
I think it would be good to start thinking about it now because the winter league is just around the corner.
