Hi all,
There is a revision to the fixtures issued by Steve following the unfortunate withdrawal of the The Cock Hotel 'B' team.
A revised fixture list has been emailed to all captains and others for whom I have an email address. If you have not received a copy and want one please let me know.
Cheers and best wishes for the forthcoming season - play well.
Lorin

Hi all,
Please note I have issued another revised fixture list with changes to the dates of league matches but not the order of fixtures.
Please note:
Full details of a significant rule change has also been included. If you have not received these details please contact me.
Good luck to all for the forthcoming Winter League. Play well!

Sorry to say Lorin but...........please clarify the final date on the new fixture list. It still says 3rd March 2014.
Do we assume that this should be 31st March? Or...will we receive v5 of the fixture list in due course :(
Sorry.... Mick.

Good spot! 3rd March is correct but previous two dates should state 10th Feb and 24th Feb respectively! Schoolboy error!
Looks like v5 is required!

Hi as I didn't attend the AGM I know I can't really have an opinion on this rule change. I however do have a question. If the division 2 player was to score 5,000 and I got a break of 6,000 would the rule still apply? I have witnessed a few division 2 players do this to myself so would like some clarification please.

Hi Johnny,
Many thanks for your question.
Yes, the rule does still apply and you would need to end your turn at 6,000 points.
When your opponent returns to the table he, like you, will then be limited to scores of 2,000 if he reaches the 6k mark.
E.g. Opponent scores 5k and you reply with 6k and are required to end your turn. Opponent then returns to table but is limited to 2,000 so would need to end his/her turn at 7,000 score should they get there.
Then, if there is time, you would return to the table but would also be limited to 2k (making your total 8k).
Hope that helps to clarify.

Thank you Lorin.
Lets just hope this rule isn't going to create an artificial result as time can play a factor if it was to become a 13K game...

Yes, I take your point.
Prior to raising it at the AGM (proposed by Simon) he studied the historical stats.
It was discussed at the AGM and it would appear that in most cases (judging by the scoring history) the rule is unlikely to cause any problems.

Forgot to say - the rule can be reviewed if it proves to deliver unintended consequences.

The day it does fail i'm sure their will be a few angry faces though.
Lets wait and see and hopefully it does work for everybody, so we can all enjoy the cold harsh monday nights (in a warm pub).

Would like to know who and when as i checked through the stats since i have taken only and as far as i can see this could of only have ever happened once? Certain 2nd division players could of been handicapped by the committee with this rule so it would not apply to them but at the last committee meeting it was voted 100% unanimous that this rule would not be upheld.

Hi Simon, thank you for taking the time to go through the stats.
I may have merged a year together with another one (Dave Sadler) but I do remember Gary Tipping and Ben Foster also. Maybe he was Division 1 at the time?
However my point still stands and it only would take the one incident to be fair!
I will be optimistic but can't help thinking a point here or there could be vital in a season (if it was to happen of course).

If they do then good luck to them, it will build up their confidence to be a better player. I know for certain if it happens to me I will congratulate them and not worry about my own personal glory.
If it works and stops 2nd DIvsion players being destroyed then it does it's job, if 1st DIvsion players lose points through it then I'll be first in the queue to review it.
Like you previously said if you attended the AGM you would of had the chance to put your view out and maybe change people's views on the proposal but you didn't so let's stop worring about what might happen and enjoy the league and remember it's only a game.
You are obviously in the minority of the league in worrying about this new ruling as in the largest AGM attendance I've seen for a while the proposal had NO votes against it when it was passed.

I wish I could of attended and it was unfortunate to me what happened on that day.
This isn't about personal glory at all, it's about fairness in a game. If a player was to win because of a handicap rule stating one must vacate the table, i'm sure both parties would feel it was a bit false. Maybe it's just me.
However I heard their was a vote against the proposal.

To clarify, there was a good discussion at the AGM, regarding this proposed change, and was passed with a convincing majority if 21 votes to 2.
I would urge all players within the league to reserve judgement on whether this change is successful until we are at least a few weeks into the league season.
Thanks
