Congratulations to Oxfordshires representative Steven Sheard on winning the All England Singles title for the first time yesterday beating Berkshires Paul Sainsbury in a tense final. With Morgan Wright of Camb's a no show the players were put into two groups of four. Group 1 was Steven, Lorin Clough (Northants), Mark Brewster (Kent) & Dennis Claydon (Hants) with Steven topping his group with 3/3 wins including 3 table run outs! The most exciting of which was against Mark Brewster who broke down on 19,100 chasing Stevens 19,800 with a minute to go! Group 2 was Kevin Tunstall (Sussex), Paul Sainsbury (Berkshire) Ernie Jordan (Bucks) & Laurie Roberts (Surrey). Kevin & Paul had won both their first two matches which meant that whoever won the last match between themselves would win the group. Kevin missed early and Paul took full advantage with two sizeable breaks to reach his Fifth ? 3/4 ? A/E final. In the final Paul won the toss and put Steven in on a slightly tricky table 2. Steven then proceeded with caution to play the table out superbly with 16,100. Paul then played well with a few excursions down the table to chase it down reaching 12,000 in good time but unfortunately breaking down to let Steven in who then regained the break and at this point Paul graciously conceded. Steven also won the highest break with the one against Mark. Well done son...thoroughly deserved.

Congratulations to Steven on what I'm sure will be the first of many AE Singles titles(unlike Daddy!!!). A superb runout on tricky table 2.
Yes fifth Keith.
