Hey up Nigel,
I have Volume 1 in my collection and it was worth the money.
Let us know if Vol. 2 is any good and I'll probably purchase from Amazon.
Cheers, tommo

Will do Tommo, yep enjoyed the volume 1. I think this one has 13 episodes from an early series, a few more than the 6 in volume 1, so should be good value for money.

Got the dvd today, watched a bit. It its from 1973/74 and has 13 episodes.
Haven't watched it all and was hoping there would be a bit more bar billiards. Lot of darts, arm wrestling and chesse skittles and spotted a young john Virgo playing american pool.
The bar billiards featured john baker who won the event from tunbridge wells , jim hornibrooke also from kent, peter wells from oxon and regining champ taffy john. Games seemed to be 10 minutes and players limited to 45 second visits!
John got interviewed by fred upon winni and took him aback when said his highest break was 15k.
You get double the episodes than on the last dvd, well worth the money in my opinion

Hardly any of you will know of Jim Hornibrook.
You might be interested to read the obituary I wrote for a remarkably gifted man and someone who it was a privilege to call a friend.

Pete Wells was an institution in Oxford too, and an old team mate of mine at the Lord Napier. A real gentleman, a brilliant teacher who brought on many young players and a fine player himself - I saw him run the Napier table out five consecutive games (with over 20K in each game) in an evening's practice, just to see if he could do it!
I remember him being disgusted with the behaviour of certain bar billiards players in the Indoor League that caused the demise of the sport from that programme....
A true product of his generation and he and countless others like him, are greatly missed in this selfish age....
Tony
PS I'll put the DVD on my Xmas list....thanks Nigel!

I have watched the whole boxset so can give you a few more details 9 sports are covered, bar billiards, bar skittles, shove hapenny, mens darts, ladies darts, table football, arm wrestling, cheese skittles & american pool. The last 3 are new to this series. There are 13 episodes in the series, so double the last volume. Bar billiards features in only 4 which is a little disappointing but nonetheless all episodes were an interesting watch. Particularly liked the look of the cheese skittles and bar skittles. These players showed a hell of a lot of skill. I want to give these games a try. I was amazed at some of the politically incorrect comments during some of the episodes. For instance two jamaicans won the table football and had to get their prize from fred trueman. There was one black girl and one white girl presenting the awards and fred turned to the white girl and gave her a and said "we are outnumbered here love!" :o There were also a few sexist comments during the ladies darts - the commentator said that one lady would " make a great partner....or indeed wife!" :o Imagine that sort of thing on todays tv! American pool see appearances from very young john virgo and willie thorne (with hair). Loved the cheese skittles with budgie crane who had got down to his fighting weight for the tournament (he looked at least 25 stone). The arm wrestling was just weird, in one match they got so tired of nothing happening they just tossed a coin to decide the winner (seen a few bar billiards games like that). Mens darts showed welsh player alan evans who later played in the worlds, he looked a very good player Well worth the money I thought, some amazing skills on show for these amateur sports, I did amaze me that a lot of these players were out playing 4/5 nights a week, but I suppose everyone was down the pub every night in the 70's! ;D Sent from my GT-S5830 using proboards
