I'd better not put my sail up tonight then or I'll end up in someone's garden in Cleethorpes!

Getting worse..... Yesterday morning: put rose arch back in place (had blown over) Early this morning: nailed tarpaulin back in place on garden shed (had lifted off)
Next door's garden fence looks dodgy. We have a giant conifer in our back garden. The road we live in is lined by 37 oak trees (I counted them once).
Fingers crossed on no falling branches etc.

Just walked the bounds of the old orchard and have at least four trees down and several others at jaunty angles, a great shame.
Fortunately no apparent damage to the house this time apart from the directional internet aerial seems to have moved as the connection is hanging on by a thread ¼ meg instead of 24 meg! so you may lose me!

Had a near miss last night a tree came down about 10 yards in front of me. Braked but still hit it, new bumper required. If the tree had come down 2 seconds later !! well.

Tony: yes, still 37 (glad they're oak) Sav - that's sad: cider production down next year ? Pete - that's scary... your guardian angel at hand.
Self - rose arch needs further attention. Next-door neighbour - repairing garden fence as we speak.

Sav - that's sad: cider production down next year ? That area is all plum trees (or was ) so chutney, jam, plum crumble and wine production will suffer next year, though there are several more trees.
Apple and pear trees are all off to the left and were a bit more sheltered by the house on this wind direction.

It was all a bit wild last night down here, especially down at Brighton Marine where we went to watch the latest episode of "The Hobbit" at the cinema.... a few trees down around the area and our front fence took a bit of a pounding which meant that I spent the morning re-fixing the fence posts before the next storms come in at the weekend. Looking at the pictures on the BBC website, we got away very lightly compared to some.... hope everybody is safe and well in bar billiards land.

Mrs Driver says she has problems with wind from Mr Driver all year round . I can recommend a good read: "Bubbles In The Bath" by Ivor Windybottom.

I do hope that none of you have been affected by the bad weather. Having got back safely on Monday from the West part of the country during some very poor weather driving conditions, I cannot imagine how those who are flooded or without power are coping. I saw the news today re parts of Surrey, I do hope none of you are affected by it. We live more or less on the Surrey/Sussex border and there's certainly a lot of water about at the moment: www.crawleynews.co.uk/VIDEO-River-Mole-Ifield-bursts-banks/story-20362098-detail/story.htmlThe source of the River Mole is Ifield Mill Pond (just round the corner from us) and the Mole flows north-westerley via Leatherhead, eventually joining the Thames at Molesey. There is a red warning flood alert covering the whole of the tributary at present. I have taken part in numerous protests against developers' plans to build 5,000 houses west of Ifield on what is essentially a flood plain.

In the last half-hour the M23 has been closed due to flooding. Picture taken here of a familiar stile from the numerous protest walks !

Anyone who has visited the Mill House will recognise this junction which when Margo and I took a walk last night at midnight was completely clear.
Just goes to show how quickly things can change. Not looking forward to Friday !
Our thoughts are with all those who are without electricity.....must be jolly frustrating.
