Hi Everyone
To replace the cancelled match against Jersey the England side will be playing a friendly match against a combined team made up of some of our best ladies and under 30's.
I would like to thank Pauline Withey and Stephen Coleman for agreeing to organise the team.
The match will consist of 12 double leg matches and will be " Off the spot". Sav has been able to move the eveing dinner an hour earlier and will be from 6pm -7.30pm. This will enable the friendly to start by 8pm and finish before 10pm.
Thanks
Curt

this will not come as a surprise to the people that know me as please or offend I speak my mind, why oh why are the powers that be messing about with the best tournament in the bar billiard calendar by putting a friendly on that weekend, what is the point?, unless its to give the top players a extra go at the tables, I was not happy with a international being put on that weekend but as it was a international I was prepared to put up with it, but a friendly? what is the point, and then to change the meal times without consulting the majority of people. well with my rant over with I would just like to say I for one appreciate the time and effort that chris and chrisie put into organising the weekend I know how much hard work and time goes into it so why make it harder for your selves

I could say: What is the point for those players of gaining the honour of being selected for England - and then not getting the chance to play ?

I notice that not all of the players selected for this match are playing in the pairs at Bournemouth, how does that work? I thought it would be players at the tournament who are selected?

I think the point here is that the new england captain has an opportunity to get his team together before we play Guernsey in may. It was obviously unfortunate that Jersey cancelled but it is a good chance for some lady and young players to get to play an England team. With the games being Saturday night players can be kept off tables they will play sunday, so cant see how it is giving top players a chance to have an 'extra' go at the tables. And surely the change to the dinner time isnt that big an issue?

Captains choice, Colin. It's good to see that players will come all that way to play a friendly match of just two legs !

I look at it this way... but my personal opinion only This has probably been the easiest part of the competition for Chris Saville re the friendly, I play a minor part here, compared to the work he puts in. It's the monies collection that is the difficult part. I then sort the rooms. We constantly liaise and he works wonders supports the AEBBA at every step of the way. It is great that other players are getting a chance to play against such a great ENGLAND team !! What a great opportunity ! GO THE LADIES GO I want a smiley for this please !!!!!Curt, has constantly involved all of the AEBBA committee in anything he does and is trying to rally a team that is prepared for Guernsey The early dinner has an end time of 7.30pm for those that want it a little later, I personally am glad it is earlier, as normally in bed at 9.30pm most days and up at 5.30am, so body clock says YEHHHHHH !!!! yes being very personally selfish (no smiley for that either) Nigel will ensure no advantage to players the next day, to be honest in 'my world', they never get an advantage, even if they had played it the night before, as the tables change overnight and are checked AM. If I am good enough on the day they will lose, I play the table not the player. In saying this, I personally am very grateful for the feedback, as at least someone takes the time to do so and that is also truly appreciated, THANK YOU. Chrissie

I notice that not all of the players selected for this match are playing in the pairs at Bournemouth, how does that work? I thought it would be players at the tournament who are selected? Having been part of the selection for the under 30's I know that myself and Curt where more towards the idea of awarding players for their performance throughout the year and give them a chance at playing the England side, rather than just whoever was at Bournemouth. I also second Keith's comments on saying how great it is that people will travel a distance to play two legs (possibly not even that with the standard of the England side), and I think this shows how important the friendly is, to show people that their performances are being noted and that if improvements continues, who knows they could be one of the England players playing in this game one day! Obviously this is only my opinion, in which every is entitled to. Also I know this isn't the place to talk about it, but well done and thank you to Chris and Chrissie on organising not only the capability of this friendly but also Bournemouth as whole!

A very enjoyable evening with "Captain Curt" leading "Starship England" to victory in his first game in charge, although the scoreline in the match (30 points to 6) was fairly convincing in the end some of the games were closer than the figures suggest. My thanks to those that arranged this match and to the Ladies and Young Guns that took part after the Jersey team were sadly unable to make it. An enjoyable addition to the weekend and hopefully future interantional matches can take this slot.
