Dear All As assistant secretary and the main man to sort the final playing times ... Nigel will sort this and there will not be a complete redraw. Nigel will tell you how he did this, which he explained to me tonight. We can all have our views but no one will be right or wrong please bear that in mind, it will just be your opinions. OMG I only just got off the phone and he was quicker than me. See above Thanks Chris

All
I need to thank Chris S for saying how the mistake occurred. However....
You all though really need to know how many hours Chris Saville has put in recently re Bournemouth, transporting tables, continuing with the banking as I don't have access ( won't bore you with why ) sorting the ECU, sorting the banking spreadsheets, trying to find a new price for a new van... the list and hours are endless. He has being do this 24/7. You really have no concept of the hours that have gone in here.
He is always on hand to sort issues.
Chris

and I don't do as much as Chris at all, he has worked so hard on your behalf.

Unfortunately Lee MacCormack has had to withdraw due to work commitments which leaves Ian Jellis without a partner. If anyone is looking for a game please let me know.

Congratulations to Curt Driver and Mark Brewster who won the AEBBA Pairs title today at Bournemouth, beating Jon Bamsey and Tony Willis 3-1 in a high quality final. Jon ran the table out with 19k in the first leg only for Curt to reply with a 20k play out of his own. Tony started well but sadly missed both balls on a split shot at 3.5k and Curt got the break back straight away and ran the rest of the table out with 13.5k, leaving Mark to have to take his first shot in the match with the break in the last game, he missed one ball on a split fairly early but got the break back and touched on 5k to seal victory. Curt had Mark had very nearly gone out of the competition in the semi-finals with their opponents Martin Cole and Stuart Mepham 2-1 up with their break to come, but a good break from Mark sealed victory in a rollercoaster ride of a game where all 4 games were won against the break, while Jon and Tony had beaten Dennis Atkins and Geoff Jukes at the same stage. The surprise package in the Quarter-Finals were Ros Appleby and Andy Farmer-Wright who had beaten former champions Steven Sheard and Pete Phillips to reach that stage with the other quarter-finalists being Paul Sainsbury and Bernie McCluskey, Dave and Terry Alder and Alan Oliver and Ian Moss. Mike Daw and Stephen Coleman won the Plate Competition beating Phil Hawkins and Dave Tooke in the final, Bill Keenan & Roger Birch and Chris & Chrissie Newson were the semi-finalists and Bella & Kevin Stoner, Mark Trafford & Sid Ponting, Colleen Park & Tony Jenner and Craig Carlson & Derek Latham reached the quarter-finals. Our thanks go to all of the people that do so much work to arrange and this weekend for all of us that just turn up to play our games.... Chris Saville and Chrissie Newson for negotiating a great deal with the hotel and making all of the bookings and arrangements.... Dave and Terry Alder for running the Admin Desk.... Nigel Senior and Jean Brackenridge who sorted out the formats for the games.... Sav (again) for bringing the tables down and taking them back afterwards.... Sav (yes, yet again!) and Dennis Atkins for setting the tables up so well and last, but no means least, the Queens Hotel for hosting the event and their generous sponsorship. The food and service was very good, bar prices seemed pretty reasonable and everyting seemed to run very smoothly to give us all a great weekend.

Thanks for comments Dave, very much appreciated. I would like to thank all the organisers/sponsors and hotel for a great weekend of billiards. This was my first year in the pairs so to win it was very special. Of course this is a team event so I would like to thank my partner who was happy to let me have all the breaks I did hit some good form over the weekend but was great to have a partner who could pick up the pieces when it didnt quite go to plan. As Dave mentioned , the semi final could have gone either way until Mark was able to put a nice break together to take the last leg and win on aggregate. Well done to Jon and Tony on reaching another final and congratulations to Stephen and Mike on winning the plate. Curt

Isn't it 1,4,3,2 in first frame then 2,3,4,1 in the second

Tony had the break in the 3rd game and Mark was last to break off in game 4. So the person who breaks in the first leg does go last in the second leg but not in the order you have put. Hope this helps ? Curt

Just got back and have never felt so totally knackered after an open. It didn't help that not one person stayed to help take down the tables! Dave A. needed to get away early so had gone. The two lads from my league, there for the first time, were really impressed with the players' enthusiasm to help clear up, sorry I mean disappear as quickly as possible. Craig and Derek you were stars!
All went smoothly and prices will be held, as agreed, for next year.
If the same happens next year I'll leave the tables in Bournemouth!
Sav.
[edit] following a couple of pm's:
We could not interrupt the final to get started as the boxes were under that table, hence I said I was in no rush, obviously everyone else was! Also using the best tables eligible for the finals meant that the finals were spread across the hall and dismantling would have caused disruption.
I said I would get help from the hotel to get the tables out to the van, if needed. I did not expect to find the hall empty and all eight tables still sitting there on all four legs.

Well done Curt (You'll soon have the set ) & Mark on your great win and unlucky Jon & Tony on finishing R/Up for the 4th time .(same as me) It must be very disappointing again for you both not to have won it but to keep making the final of this event is still an excellent achievement, perhaps next year ? Well done also to Stephen & Mike on winning the Plate against two very experienced players in Phil & Dave. Who won the Meritorious award ? I still can’t see why there isn’t a combined “highest break award” like it says in the rules but that’s the least of the problems at the moment with having to find the money to buy another (tables) van. Great three days as usual with superb weather for the time of year. Looking forward to next year and hoping we can get past the first rd in either competition because we (sorry Pauline) didn’t this year! Thanks to those that made this all possible with the organisation of this “not to be missed” tournament. Keith

Being the observant person I am, I noticed the last time the Bournemouth plate shield was engraved was 2010, was this for a reason? as I was going to pass onto our secretary to have it engraved.

It is the winners responsibility to get it engraved. I guess those before you decided not to. I personally am proud of your achievement - so please get it engraved Thanks x

Having spoken to the committee with regards to this trophy, Northants Bar Billiards Association are going to get the trophy engraved and with the permission of the AEBBA Committee we would like to get it updated to keep the trophy up to date. so if you have a list of the winners from 2011 to date we will organise this.
The only issue we have is that the trophy only has two plaques remaining..... We could start on the back of that's what the AEBBA wish?
Regards Stephen
