This weekend we held our annual finals night and Jim Wilson tournement in Northants. We hired the tables from Bar Billiards Ltd. Upon delivery, the driver said words to this effect to our man at the venue.....' Well its the last time you will have these tables as they are all to be sold off very soon!'
Has anyone else heard such stories as this is obviously a concern not only to us, but to all inter-area/county championship/open events?

Yes Its fact, and it was announced at the AEBBA AGM. AEBBA are doing absolutetly nothing to react to this and are buryng their head in the sand and hoping the problem will go away as usual. Hence why I now have a set of eight match tables Sav's Tables with KP still trying to work out how to play the gameThere is talk of Bar Billiard's tables being bought by Brian & Mary D. but they could just as easily end up sold off separately. Bar Billiards Ltd will be looking to maximise sale values. Sav

You could have took the picture the day before when dressed for billiards and not in my work clothes GRRRRRRR :(
I was actually trying to work out how you manage to use that cue of yours, as I didn't have mine with me. Comparing your punt pole with my tooth pick, I start to appreciate just how good you must actually be Sav to get over the handicap of the cue :D
With luck it will be broken on the 'flight' and then you can get a proper one :D

Yes I noted your disapproval of my cue in that you left it to cook for hours on a hot radiator pipe. When I eventually fopund it was no longer in its case it was quite well done >:(
Fortunately being a good quality Peradon cue it was not damaged.
Just in case you use it again, I have ordered a new two piece cue ;D

At the AGM we offered to buy the tables so they would not be sold off separately.
We have since had written confirmation from Ken Hussey that Bar Billiards Ltd will be keeping their commitments for 2006, and that we have first refusal to buy the tables when they plan to sell them, and we will be planning to follow on with the commitments to supply tables to opens and any other tournements that Bar Billiards commit themselves too.
So no need to panic we love the game too.
Mary

After a conversation today Ken Hussey said to Brian that we still have first refusal on the tables and that they are taking bookings for 2007.

Don't forget the insurance, Mary, and it is good to know that not everyone "is burying their heads in the sand".

Well it looks like its starting.
Gill had a message for me on my return from a couple of days away.
Apparently someone in Bexhill?? had phoned Bar Billiards Ltd for their regular booking next year for finals night tables and was told Bar Billiards Ltd are not doing any more competition tables rentals.
They gave whoever it was my number and not the Daniels!!! They are ringing me back.
This is the bit people have not realised. Its the finals night hire of a couple of tables that is going to be difficult, not open hire of a full set.

I'm not really addressing the overall problem here, but Bexhill being in Sussex could try Tarratts as a stop-gap measure: They may do them a special deal in the hope of securing extra business for the future - although I understand Tarratts also have a limited availability of tournament tables.

We also have called Ken to order our 8 tables for finals night and our Internal Northants Open Competition, and we were told that the 8 tables had been booked and the 'new' owners of the tables were aware of it?
So, Brian and Mary........Have you been told please?

I thought Brian & Mary wanted to take the lot over. I've emailed them to be aware of this. Sav. Hopefully it work exactly like that. It just that Tarratts are automonous for Sussex, although their influence doesn't appear to reach as far east as Eastbourne. It's a long county !

Basically, Ken has been doing the bookings for next year, he has given Brian a list of towns and dates, but as far as I know he is still continuing to do the regular bookings!

Brian has just spoken to Ken, and Ken turned Bexhill down due to them wanting only 2 tables.
But he has confirmed he is taking bookings for 2007.

Seems like it might be an idea for the Sussex consortium to pick up the Bexhill one if its too far for Mary & Brian.

Can anyone confirm the information I received last night at the Wallingford comittee meeting that Ken Hussey has left Bar Billiards Ltd.
If this is the case can anyone give me who the contact is now there ?

I believe there may be some confusion. It was Richard Gipps (MD) who has sold his shares and left, as far as I know. For contact, just ring the normal number and see!
