This is so wrong and ruins the league a final should be played on finals night

In normal circumstances, Bob, I'd agree with you. But this is not a normal circumstance, the only other alternative being to give your mum and Jim the title by default with Roy being away in Canada on Finals Night. Then there would have been no Final played at all.
The situation was discussed in very great length at committee level, and in doing so we examined 'precedents' and were influenced by what happened with Adam Bateup in Mid Sussex a few years back when he was eventually allowed to play his semi-final despite being unavailable on Finals Night, reversing an earlier committee decision.
Lorraine very sportingly offered us two dates when the matches could be played which still allows a Mixed Doubles final to be played this year, and gets round the embarrassment of the semi-finals not having been played when they should have.
The only truth in your statement is that a final should not be played after Finals Night. As Finals night represents the end of the season, finito.

This doesn't really involve you Bob so best to keep out of it.
The Committee ruling, made in good faith and with consideration given to all parties is FINAL.

Rob. Clive has replied as league Chairman !! You are not directly involved in this competition & it is being dealt with the best interest of having a proper final with very difficult circumstances & time limits.
Please let the people directly involved sort it out.

Now I hear Lou can`t make it, so will there be yet another FINAL DECISION? Very cunningly worded, as one might expect from a Fox, but when the circumstances keep changing, like they have here, we keep having to re-assess the situation. Yes Lou could make it, if the game were later, but that would involve too much duck-shoving at the Limeburners (we are trying to be considerate to you all here). As a committee we are trying to act in the spirit of the game and trying to encourage playing of the Semis and a Final. Maybe we should have taken the simple route and just eliminated the others and handed you the title, which would be no more than you deserved, but then the adoring public would be denied any chance of spectating a Mixed Doubles Final on Finals Night. At the end of the day we are united in the view that bar billiards titles should be won on the baize, rather than by political shenanigans.

This thread is in great danger of becoming volatile. We do want to encourage lively debate - people are entitled to their opinions AND committees are elected to make such decisions but please keep it civil everyone!
thanks Tony

Clive I want the games to be played too. But to keep changing dates when the original date was attended, then at very short notice to re arrange our diaries to accommodate, only to be put off again is more than frustrating!

No probs Jim, all we can do is apologise once more to you and Lorraine for being mucked about, but you must also appreciate what a difficult position Stephen our Competitions Secretary has been put in.
Before any of this flared up Stephen had already announced that he felt he would be unable to stand for the post next year due to increasing work commitments.
For this to happen to him now is poor reward for his excellent service, and he has Ian's and my full backing for whatever difficult decisions he has become obliged to make.
Clive (Chair)
