I spent an emotional hour or so with Ian King the Railways landlord last night talking about the billiard team. He is deeply upset that we will not have a side after 28 years of him being our landlord. In believe the Railway was one of the founding members of the Billingshurst league, I am sure Tommo will confirm...or not.
We have made no secret that we are about to fold due to a lack of players.
One last try, if anybody is interested in playing for us please leave a message for me on the pro board.

Well Mick, As far as I am aware the Billingshurst League was formed in 1965 by Percy Barnett as a breakaway faction from the Horsham League when he had the dirty done on him and was ousted as Secretary. The founding meeting was held at the Railway which was chosen as the headquarters, and the Railway were one of the original member teams. Although my own records only date back as far as 1970/71: www.billingshurstbarbilliards.co.uk/page7.html........we can say with confidence that apart from two blips (in 1981/2 and 1983/4) the Railway have had at least one team each season since then, throughout SIX decades ! As Ian says, it will be a sad day indeed to see you boys fold, and I have many fond memories of three separate stints of playing for the team with Bill Phillips, John Harvey and Maureen, Nigel, Nathan, Ron Boston etc when it was in the Horsham League. Not to mention Windows (no please don't mention Windows !)
