12 The "Oxford Martyrs": bishops Hugh Latimer, Nicholas Ridley and Archbishop of Canterbury Thomas Cranmer. This was during the religious persecutions of the reign of Mary I. After witnessing the burning of the other two, Cranmer recounted his Protestantism but Bloody Mary refused to accept this and had him burnt anyway ! On the way to his death he changed his mind back - why not ?

6 He was a farmer who shot and killed a burgler, so it was murder which then was reduced to manslaughter I believe. There was a huge amount of support for him, but he came across as a very unpleasant character. 8 Off the west coast of south Africa. Nelson Mandela spent much of his captivity there. It is now a tourist attraction. I have not been there myself, but friends who have, tell me it is the most desolate place they been, and it is a testament to Madeba that he kept his sanity, and did not seek revenge for being put there.
