It has been suggested that we need more publicity about these events - Please could you indicate below if you intend to enter the Alternative Rules which will be held at Didcot Conservative Club. Nigel/Dave will then get an overview of possible numbers for the event

Congratulations to Nigel Senior for winning the Alternative Rules competition yesterday, beating Mark Trafford in a good final. With only 27 entries, it was decided to play the competition in 7 Groups to start with and both Nigel and Mark won all of their games to progress to the quarter-finals where they were joined by the other group winners (Curt Driver, Barry Radford, Doug Carswell, Tony Webster and Steven Sheard) and the leading runner-up, Dave Alder. Nigel beat Tony Webster in the quarter-final and then Barry Radford in a very close semi-final that was only decided in the last 2 balls of the match while Mark beat Curt and Dave Alder at the same stages. In the final, Mark opened up a good lead in the early stages of the first leg but Nigel clawed is way back into the game leaving Mark with an advantage of 650 at the end of the first game, the second leg went very much Nigels way with Mark having very little luck while Nigel kept some good scores to seal his win. Lee Radford won the Plate Competition beating Tony Woolvin in the Final, Craig Mace and Pauline Withey were the losing semi-finalists and Carla Jolly, Phil Griffin, Dave Lawton and Dave Ingram all lost in the quarter-finals. Nigel completed a good day by also winning the High Break Award for his break of 1,460 in his first group game and after winning the East Anglia 4-Pin Open earlier this year has probably earned the title.... "King of the Quirky Competitions"! Many thanks to Dave Alder for running a very enjoyable day with plenty of close matches.

and after winning the East Anglia 4-Pin Open earlier this year has probably earned the title.... "King of the Quirky Competitions"! I've heard he's crap at Spoons. Seriously though well done to Nigel and to his runner-up Mark. Neither are bad at Off-the-Spot, either.
