Any point in running the under 25s with 4 people entering (providing phil actually pulls out) seems like a waste of time to be fair Tables, hall and organisers will be there, trophies have been bought. If four are prepared to compete then one of them deserves the honour of being under 25's champ. History will remember just who was champion.
Good luck to you!

Unfortunately with the expected finish times Tony Jenner, Terry Molloy and Rick Cunningham will have to withdraw from both the 50s and 60s apologies but the timings are going to be a rush for inter league in the evening. Ian Lelliott has just rung me to say that unfortunately he will now not be able to attend as he was planning on travelling up with Tony, Rick and Terry.... just to clarify, Bill Kerr will also not be there as he is in hospital.

Before I start I don't want people to think I am complaining or moaning, but I just wandered whether there is anyway we can have the Under 25's finish before 5 so Phil can play, obviously I know this depends on table time etc but it would be such a shame to run the under 25's with only 3 players. I would also be very disappointed to drive for 2.5 hours and find out that no one has turned up and have a 2.5 hour drive home. I know there is nothing the organisers can do about people not entering and it unfortunately looks like the end of a long running competition! There is no point in keep raising the age bracket as at what point do you stop!

Just been informed Callum has other plans for tomorrow Down to 3 now hmmmm It seems a real shame when the young players keep complaining about having no competitions specifically for them, that they cannot reorganise their lives for one day to turn up for the few competitions that ARE happening. It has been well advertised for a while now and it's a bit of a slap in the face for the organisers. We all have to make a bit of an effort to keep these comps going surely...? I will add that I am constantly impressed by the quality of the few that we do have left.

I agree Tony, perhaps part of the problem is that some of them are not too old to enter while others in the southern areas may have transport problems getting to Didcot as there are very few other players heading up there from down here for the other competitions tomorrow. I am not sure that there is easy solution to this unless perhaps individual counties hold an Under 25's competition and the winners go forward in the same way that the AE Men's and Ladies Competitions are played alongside the county championships.... althoughm thinking about it, how many counties actually have enough youngsters to hold a competition.... perhaps just Oxon and Sussex based on recent entries for the National Under 25's so that idea would probably not work. Maybe it should have been left to be played alongside the Grand Prix as most counties usually have at least one player there for that so it may make transport easier for the youngsters....?

Hopefully Phil will still be able to play and that will take us back up to five!
Speaking on behalf of Northants regarding your point Dave we have about four players in Northants that are Under 25, soon to be three as I close in on that ancient age, so we certainly wouldn't have enough for a seperate competition. However we did used to hold one every year on our finals weekend which would some years get in excess of 10 entries, and I was one of the oldest, so it's a shame really!
I know one year I managed to get all 4 down to the tournament, and they all had a great time and the league paid for everyone's fuel and cost to enter, however I think because of the age, there is much "cooler" things to do on a Sunday then play billiards!
Speaking on behalf of someone who has never won the tournament, I shall be their regardless of numbers tomorrow, (for my last year) to support a great competition I have ways enjoyed playing!

Tony Martin beat me in the final of the Over 50's, gave me a big chance by pinning his opener early, but I failed to pot both balls on first shot to get the break back from a good position. Tony did an racked up 13½k. I left one on the front edge of the 100 trying tight split on 4k on my reply and that was the end of that.
Phil (oooh my back hurts) Hawkins was one of the Over 60's finalists.
It was a good and well run day, with helpers for Dave to pack up.
Lucky for me I made a record breaking journey back! left at 1810hrs at the start of the over 60's final and found a late running fast train on the platform at Didcot, arrived at Paddington at 1920hrs, got the bike out of the guards van and pedalled like hell across London (what traffic lights) and made the 1942 at St Pancras with one minute to spare! arrived home at 2130hrs.

[Staff Edit] Post immediately prior to this was subsequently deleted. The missing post is quoted below [End Staff Edit]I am very confused by this post Enzo. As you quoted me, I will say that I was referring to a specific situation that occurred LAST YEAR and it was simply an observation not a heart-felt criticism If your local secretary had not informed your league of the dates for these comps in the knowledge that there may be players interested, then moan at him/her not at the AEBBA - it is unrealistic to expect the national body to contact every player individually - that is what fora like this are for. This year's competitions are a long way off yet and I'm sure you will welcomed with open arms by the organisers! Tony (still a bit baffled TBH)

It has been well advertised for a while now and it's a bit of a slap in the face for the organisers. We all have to make a bit of an effort to keep these comps going surely...? I will add that I am constantly impressed by the quality of the few that we do have left. As you are categorising all of us young people then I will speak on behalf of all of us, more specifically the Worthing lot, and apologise in advance if my statements do not reflect their situation. Granted, you will have a shout that the onus is on us to find out when the competition is and attend, but if you are preaching this nonesense based on an assumption then I have no choice but to defend us. I am not having a dig at AEBBA organisers, they do so much for so little appreciation already, but there are others out there too (such as yourself if you feel so strongly on the subect) who can help out indirectly. Not only were we NOT told about this year's competition in person by anyone nor did we receive entry forms filtered through to club level or to our captains, but in fact we received some sort of chinese whisper that you were considering moving the event to around this time of year due to the decline in numbers and tying it up with another competition, such as was done with the Grand Prix event previously. Therefore we made no attempt to enter as we were ill-advised that we had 3 or 4 months longer than usual. Hence why today I have come onto the forum for the first time in months to enquire as to when the competition is, only to find out we have missed it. We are disappointed we were not reminded nor encouraged to come along this year considering we have been regular attendees over the last 5 years, there are not that many of us so it is not hard to round up the stragglers once a year. For the good of the sport, and as I was aspiring to win the competition, I took it upon myself in years previous to cart as many as I could up there as distance is a huge problem for most. Unfortunately I am now an inactive bar billiards player and had only 2 of these competitions remaining before I become ineligible, and less for several of my fellow U25 lot, but we were still keen on attending. I am not in form but this year but will be proud to play in what will be my last year and I will bring with me who I can, but don't criticize the ones who can't make it or are attempting to make it with amendments to timing, as it is hypocritical in doing so, as you are quick to moan when you see depleted entry numbers. Enzo This is interesting Loz as the under 25s was advertised in the Sept and Oct 2014 edition of the Black Peg in the dates for your diary section and also in the main text on the front page of the October edition. Your captain had a copy either sent in the post or hand delivered in plenty of time to organise players to enter.

Please do not delete posts eight years after you made them, doing this makes a nonsense of the thread, The deleted post is quoted so little was achieved. Apology was excellent and sufficient.
