Can someone tell me what time it starts on Saturday, as Steven & Ray have not heard anything yet, or have I missed it in another thread.
Keith.

Did this need publicising ? It's exactly the same format as usual - the little curtain raiser to the full International v Jersey being played at Horley in two weeks' time (9th February).
That's the one that could do with publicising and it's not even shown on our calendar. :o
You should know the drill by now, and it's really down to your England captain to keep you informed - not me, I'm the opposition ! ;)
It will take place after the all-day Mixed Doubles (tomorrow) which I imagine would finish at around 7pm, but don't quote me !
We look forward to entertaining the cream of the crop, but remember - it's only a Friendly, so don't be too severe on us ! ;D

That`s strange ??? I thought all the players knew the start time.
Ok, for anyone out there that doesn`t know, the friendly will follow the Mixed pairs competition at about 7.30pm. All players need to be there for 7.00pm. If you haven`t been there before, i`m sure Tommo will give exact directions on this site, maybe the postcode too ;)
Regarding the International itself, I did post something on the Oxon site for the hotel costs etc, as Keith & Pauline needed the details.
Here they are again -
The match is at the Skylane hotel, Horley RH1 2LG on Saturday the 9th of February. Games to commence about 7.45pm. Anyone wishing to stay the night should ring the hotel direct 01273 786971. Room prices vary from £45-£55 per night.
Mark Turner is the only withdrawal from the original eleven players selected, therefore Jim Millward will take his place in the team and Richard Wooton now becomes 1st reserve. Those players that have not got a polo shirt from last year will be getting one. Waistcoats will not be worn until further notice.
Hope to see one or two supporters at the match :D

Thanks Sav for displaying the maps. Just to add for anyone on their first visit: turn at traffic lights into Frenches Road, then sharp back on yourself at the mini roundabout. Then sharp right at the top of the incline.

From what i can gather, the England team always play a friendly against Surrey ? Why do they not play other counties ? Surely playing against Oxfordshire as county champions would be better ?

From what i can gather, the England team always play a friendly against Surrey ? Why do they not play other counties ? Surely playing against Oxfordshire as county champions would be better ? That's an easy one to answer. Firstly Surrey is the host county (on 9th Feb the International will be held at the Skylane Hotel in Horley.) Secondly, it's a 'friendly' challenge and Surrey are very friendly. ;D Finally, admittedly, Sussex and Oxon are the strongest counties, but are so thanks to certain key members of the England squad - who would then be playing against themselves. These things usually evolve for a reason, and I don't hear any of the England players knocking it.

Mark, matches have been played between England and other counties before (Kent and Bucks but there were probably others).
England v Surrey is a recent biennial addition mainly because they always have a mixed doubles tournament 2 weeks before England v Jersey. So it is good off the spot practice for the England team against some good players.
However I am sure if another county wanted a friendly against England, I am sure we would be up for it if they can organize it.

As Nigel has already said, we have played other friendly Internationals in the past but they end up a bit of a damp squib. The counties we played always needed their star players back otherwise they fielded a weakened side. Therefore, they weren`t actually playing the full England eleven, pointless really.
This friendly was started two years ago because the England team hardly ever play "Off the Spot" and it was felt they needed the practice. We already give Jersey some advantage by playing under their rules so we don`t want to go in `cold` against them.
As for other friendlies, not sure we can fit them into the Bar Billiard calendar, sorry :-/

You may as well post the scorecard for this Sir KT, and not worry too much about causing any embarrassment.
England players were awesome, it was like playing against a super race. Off the spot is so difficult, especially on Jelkes tables (the off the cushion shots seem to work so much better on the Jersey tops) and in one game I thought I'd done well with a score of 3940 - but I still managed to lose the frame by over 10,000 ! :o

Sounds like a good evening and looking at the scores, certainly bears out Tommos comment on class play from the England mens team with a spattering of 10k plusses.
