The League Cup competition, which starts on 8 December, will be played using the same handicap system as last year. For the benefit of new members, and those who've forgotten, the format is described below.
The handicap is based on each team's average game score in the first half of the league competition. There is no consideration of individual player rating, table rating or home/away differences. After the first half of the league competition is completed, the average* game scores over the 8 matches, for each team, is calculated - to the nearest 100. Each team is allotted a 'handicap' equal to this value.
Now, in each league cup match the captain of the 'weaker' team can choose any 3 games to apply the handicap to. In each of those 3 games the 'weaker' player will be given a starting score equal to the difference in handicaps. The 3 games must be nominated after the draw, and before the start of the first game.
The competition will be run on normal (All England) playing rules - same as league competition - except that the handicap will apply.
There will be 8 matches (plus one bye), 'all plays all', either home or away. Each team will have 4 home and 4 away games, and the handicap system will apply in all matches.
The handicaps this year are:
The handicap bonuses for the first week are:
Albion v Hikers Rest (home bonus 1400)
Plough v Cock n Balls (away bonus 200)
Hospital Club v Laughing Fish K (home bonus 2200)
Laughing Fish W v Black Horse (away bonus 300)
*The average is weighted to offset any home table advantage/disadvantage. A separate average is calculated for each of the league tables and these are then averaged again. The full calculation, for anyone that wants to check the maths, is in the attached spreadsheet.
